Next coach is going to have some pieces.

Incipient, I agree with your statement above. I just thought it would be common sense to let a recruit out of his LOI after a coach was fired, so that was just my opinion. On the other hand, what I meant was, after reading Jones comments today (he was quoted confidentially) made it sound like he would not be at UT even if he had to sit out a year to go to another school. If Hamilton made him do that it would be a bad PR move on his part. He can't afford that right now. Jones won't ever suit up for UT if Pearl is fired.

Louisvile has been in the Jones contest for along time, they were one of the first 3 schools to offer him.

Jones has gone on the record multiple times about not coming to Tennessee if something happened to Pearl, also why would a UK fan post that about a bigtime recruit favoring Louisville if it wasn't true. Louisville was one of the first 3 schools to offer Jones, so it's not like they are coming out of the blue.

I agree that it's a bad PR move, but Tyler Smith and Bryce Brown weren't great PR moves either. Hopefully, we'll have a new AD.

Even more hopefully, we'll have a good new coach that can sit down with Jones and convince him that he wants to be at Tennessee.

I hope so, Jones seems to have some attitude problems and I don't know if somebody he doesn't have a relationship with is going to convince him otherwise. I would be really pissed off if I was a recruit in his position, especially since he wasn't enrolled already.

Why does anyone make anything up? I'll believe it when I see it from a credible source, no offense. Any level headed individual would at least wait and see who was hired.

Also, regardless of whether that link was right about Jones, I highly doubt that the author is correct regarding UT recruiting in general. It will suffer if Bruce stays because of negative recruiting. If he leaves, there's no way it say it'll suffer, because it will depend entirely on who comes in next. So you can't make wild predictions like he did.

No - UT will NOT let Jones or Ware out of the LOI when Pearl is fired - they definitely will not. They will have to sit a year if they want to go elsewhere.

Does it look bad? Yeah sure I guess - but every school does it - they don't care about the kid's feelings - he made the decision and signed it - unless he signed the new "lesser" LOI's where it specifically says they can get out of it with a coaching change - Jones/Ware will either be sitting out next year or wearing Orange.

This is the guy that wrote the story on the KY fan site...
1.He never mentioned Jones anywhere in this particular story...
2.The story states the player likes Louisville and the player likes CRP...Not that U of L is actively recruiting unnamed player...
3.This story was linked of a Louisville fansite....
4.Look at the guy...
5.The story states that the author talked to the player....Didn't we have a poster some time a while back boast about talking to some recruit or something ??

Hey, this all may be true but I wouldn't be bringing this story in as solid evidence....

Nope - not unless they are some major sanctions including a post season ban (which is the main reason they guys were allowed to transfer) - which isn't likely at all.. probably just a loss of a few scholarships - may have been worse if we decided to try and retain Bruce though. And like the poster above me said - I think they only let the juniors/seniors who wouldn't see a bowl game in their time there to transfer out - not let guys out of LOIs.

I've seen some of the posts at Govols. I think they would support PBR over oxygen.

Yeah, they should immediately follow up with that 92pct and question their knowledge of his actions and NCAA precedent for punishment for such actions. The overwhelming majority of fans who support him(on and off this board) haven't even read the reports nor know NCAA history in punishing coaches like Pearl. Few know that it is very possible, even likely, he won't coach for 2 years. Ignorance is bliss. Good thing this isn't American Idol and fans on govolsxtra polls won't make the calls

Having said that, I don't support Hammy either. I kind of think he is a puppet at this point. I honestly doubt yesterday's events were all on his accord. Maybe I'm dead wrong, but he did similiar thing with Fulmer in 08. I question if he is making those calls, I think he is a cheerleader/fundraiser/spokesperson. JMO, but was proud he didn't tweet about the tennis team last night

Sounds similiar to the day afyter Buzz got fired. Media reports in Louisville had Lofton transferring to UL, his Mom even alluded to it. I think it was his desire at that point if I recall correctly. He cooled off, met the new guy, and it worked out. Could be same deal here.

I think you have it here. Kids always get riled at first. Depending on the hire they may stay may not. Just because dude says tonight he will not stay without Pearl doesnt make it fact.

We definitely need more credible sources, but it also looks like we have a lot of wishful thinking that everything is going to be alright if we get a new coach regarding retaining the 2011 recruits. Bryce Brown and Lofton were already enrolled at Tennessee when they wanted to leave. Jones has been adamant about only coming to UT if Pearl was coaching and any recruit in their right mind when they signed their LOI with UT in November would have thought there was a possibility Pearl may not be retained. I highly doubt he will cool down and I don't blame him, I would be furious because he was PROMISED BY MIKE HAMILTON AND PEARL THAT PEARL WOULD BE THE COACH. You sign to play for the coach, especially if you are an elite recruit attempting to make it to the NBA. Also, I am not sure about this but I think there is a possibilty either Jones or Ware had a clause in their LOI that said they can be released if Pearl wasn't the coach. That would be a research project for somebody willing to take it on.

We are defintely letting Jones out of his intent, you know how bad that would make our school look if we didn't. Tyler Smith is a different situation.

How is Tyler Smith different? How is any of the EEs Kiffin brought different. At least Chris Jones had a feeling this was going to happen. We won't let him out.

If I were an elite player who cared first and foremost about getting to the NBA, I sure as Hell wouldn't sign to play for Bruce Pearl.

I will blame him. He didn't have to sign then. He could have done a quick google search and seen what happened to every other coach that lied or he could have looked up what happened to Bryce Brown. It was the biggest decision of his life and he made it. If he didn't look into then too bad. It wasn't like UT was going to pull the scholarship if he didn't sign immediately.

Chris Jones will not be coming to Tennessee IF Pearl is fired, which still has not been announced yet. He has announced he is going to Louisville if there is a coaching change, so there goes the starting point guard and one of our major pieces IF Pearl goes. We will have some serious holes to fill including the point guard and Center positions. Also, Scotty has a great shot at being drafted, although you may personally feel like he doesn't. Scotty will definitely be drafted in the first 45 picks, top 2 rounds.

I agree completely. All these people that want CBP gone will be complaining next year because the players will also be gone. Welcome to an empty TBA.
