I support bruce pearl

I posted this before but it has to be said again for me to gethis off my my mind. Why now?!?!? Mike needed to stay off the tweeter, cell phones, and radio shows until the season was over. If he knew this was a done deal he could have waited until the tourney was over. For no reason other than for the players this is there time. What a fool. He did the same thing before the Oregon game.

The big outcry from many fans, is that Mike Hamilton made this statement two days before the Vols play in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. They believe that Hammy sabotaged the team by making the announcement when he did. My feelings are that this was a well thought out and planned statement from Hammy.

Mike Hamilton has a brand to protect, first and foremost. Bruce Pearl has harmed the program's image and the networks have not been shy about telling the world as loud and as often as they can. Hamilton was not ready to blow up the program in preseason, as the team was about to start practice and play. However, the season has progressed and in light of the NCAA's letter of charges, a new charge against Bruce Pearl, came to light. Hammy is making it clear that Pearl's conduct was not acceptable and a fireable offense. He is also making it clear that Bruce Pearl's refusal to sign the new contract is an openly rebellious offense against the UTAD, in light of the NCAA charges and potential punishment facing the coach and school. A move to break ties with Bruce Pearl is likely to help absolve the UTAD and bring a much lighter penalty against UT in the punishment phase of the NCAA's handling of this matter.

Secondly, the statement was made, as an announcement that the back channels of communication between the UTAD and potential coaches is open. The NCAA tournament is the best place to find your best coaches. Mike Hamilton is making sure that aspiring candidates have time to think about the UT basketball job and what it offers. Coaches will not be shy to have their attorneys and agents go through the back channels ask about the UT hoops job and have UT gauge their interest in their candidates.

In hindsight, Mike Hamilton is doing what is right for UT and protecting the long term interests of the UT basketball program.

Coach Pearl is a victim of antisemitism and if it's true that he's fired, I will NEVER attend another UT basketball game.

I am one who thinks that Pearl should stay here. However, what if in a year or so, he commits another violation? Then we will be embarrassed and pissed off. With the things that we see he is capable of, can he keep his nose clean or will he commit more violations.
That is the only negative part of him remaining here.

Some of us already are.

To paraphrase Radiohead, he did it to himself.

It doesn't excuse Hamilton's incompetence when it comes to discretion. But the original sin(s) in this matter belong to Pearl.

I'm going to miss him. For a bright, shining period, it was like Mears all over again.

Sad times, but I understand, except for hammy's timing. The gloating and prodding by the Pearl haters is ridiculous though. Like little 11 yr olds on a playground. That's the part I don't understand--revelling in the destruction of others, specifically those that have done a lot for their supposed "beloved" university. Handle your business like a man, win or lose, not like a punk. That goes for both ends of this argument, imo.

Pretty much the same pollyanna crowd who thought things would be easy if we just fired Devoe and Green.

to be better than OK--and that was a justifiable decision, as he was a good coach but weak recruiter. Well, we went from OK to bad after that. Green was the exception--a pretty good recruiter who could not coach; he's teams were TERRIBLE fundamentally. Houston, O'Neil, Peterson--well, we know how they turned out.

We've got posters on this board thinking we'll walk on streets of gold after this move. SEC titles. Final Fours. National titles. And all that needs doing is to fire Pearl.

Our history indicates otherwise.

We're more likely to get the son of Howard Baker's maid than a quality proven coach--unless we get actual basketball people involved and with real pull in the selection process.

We have now heard from the Jewish Jesse Jackson.

It must be tough walking around with that big ass chip on your shoulder.

The less time he spends in TBA, the more opportunities he has to be hit by a bus. I am in favor of this.
