Well, Posey is a good example to look at. He should make a great tackle, in time. But not one I would expect to contend as a freshman. Tiny is an exception to the rule, much the same as JJ was this past year, but is an even more SEC ready prospect, IMO. That's why I predict he makes the leap right out of fall camp. He already has the size and talent to compete in the SEC.Yeah, I was thinking we would see JJ shift to LT this year as well. He has a year under his belt and a huge upside. AR will have a lot of catching up to do. If he had been an EE, then I think his chances would have been much higher. I don't think he starts the year at RT, but if he comes in and works hard, he could claim the spot by the end of the year. Just depends on his work ethic and just how talented he really is.
Not even close to downtown. You either have last chance on alcoa highway or the emerald club on Clinton highway. Neither of which are good enough to lure the lowliest of recruits.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pair is there. He was very raw last year but showed glimpses. With another year in the weight room and with Heistand, I could see him at RT.
Yea from everything I read last year Pair is really athletic he was just really thin coming in.... I don't know much about O-Line play but Thomas seems to lack the athleticism that Pair and Tiny have just from what I have seen....
Take a look at the schedule and then think, if you're the HC, do you let him get the valuable experience during the easiest part of the schedule or the toughest?

Like they did with Bray? Not trying to be a smart@$$, but unless the coaching staff is that confident in his ability, he doesn't start immediately. He starts in the latter part of the season against the weaker opponents to build his confidence going into the offseason. Hard work in the offseason and he starts as a soph day one. If he had been an EE like JJ, I could see the idea of him starting as a frosh, but he wasn't, so I don't see him starting day one. Huge leap between HS ball and college ball. Despite his talent, hard to make that adjustment with only summer drills under his belt.
We'll have to agree to disagree, then. He's SEC ready right now. No need for 2yrs in the weight room. It's not as easy as that. You want players that know the system, have been through a weight room for at least their 2nd year, and have been through the SEC. Dallas Thomas isn't a LT, yet he was forced there because of our depth last year. Dallas is more suited for the RT position, and he will be there. Antonio brings great depth and probably will see time as injuries will happen, but you won't see coaches throwing a freshman in the fire unless there's an injury.

He'll have 4-5 winable games under his belt going into the meat of the schedule. No way you sit him while watching Thomas give up one sack after another.
For the very same reasons Aaron Sears and Michael Munoz started as a Freshmen. They are an exception to the rule. If Tiny comes in during the summer session, he'll have time to get acquainted with the playbook, undergo summer workouts and head into fall camp on strong footing. I honestly do not think Thomas would be a starting tackle if there were a better option for the coaches. Even with Tiny as a freshman, they'll have their option. What makes you so certain he is SEC ready now? Is it his size? His fundamentals? His potential talent? I have no doubt the kid will be a great player at UT, but I don't see it as a given he starts. There's a lot to be said about experience. Dallas Thomas is probably watching film this offseason to see where he needs to improve. He'll have spring practice to work on it. He knows the playbook. Unless AR comes in and just blows the coaches away, which would be awesome but not likely, Thomas starts, most likely at RT, next season. AR will be busy getting coached up and learning the playbook. With hard work, the spot could be his by the end of the season.

I realize it's stepping out there on a limb to make that claim, but it's solely based on the fact that Tiny is that good, and Thomas is that bad. If we had a solid Tackle opposite of JJ, I'd feel the same way as you guys. But Thomas really is just a backup being a starter out of necessity. I guarantee you, if there was a capable replacement for him last season, his fanny would have finally gotten pulled in that USCjr game. He was flat out owned.Sears was not a day one starter his frosh year. His first start came in the Miss St. game, later in the season. I honestly don't remember about Munoz, but even if he did, he had the benefit of having Anthony Munoz, NFL HoFer, as a dad. That's certainly a special circumstance. I support your passion for AR, and agree he will be a contributor on the o-line, I just don't think he's a day one starter. I see him more like Sears, he claims the spot later in the season.
Richardson was blown away by his visit. Still no line coach but it looks like CMR is handling the olinemen recruiting personally.
