Did anyone listen to the game last night?

On Tony Basilio's show people are saying Kessling initially said that Williams' game-winning shot would not count because the ball didn't go through the hoop before the clock hit 0:00.

Can anyone confirm this? It sounds too :loco: even for him.

Someone mentioned last night that they were disappointed in the end of the game call by Bob and Burt. I thought they were talking about the lack of enthusiasm but could've been talking about the content. If Bob really did say that, he must've been sniffing the same stuff Tom Brady was the other night. Absurd comment, if he said it.

One of the idiots on ESPN said that he didn't have possession of the ball before it left his hands. I was cracking up. What is this football? Even if the UGA player tipped it in our goal it counts, no matter how it goes in.

I would be surprised if he didn't announce that Vanessa Williams had hit a grand slam through the wickets over Secretariat, beating the Georgia Globetrotters.

I heard that but he didn't mean the shot didn't count just that it was lucky to fall in since it was a long range tip

Yes, that's what Bob said. He mentioned it several times that it wouldn't count if the ball wasn't in the rim when time expired. I thought that maybe the NCAA had changed the rule for just this one game.

Based on the highlight clip on utsports.tv all Bob said was, "Lets see if it got in before the buzzer went off." He never said it wouldn't count, unless that came later. I think he just jumbled his words in the excitement of the final play. I do wish we had a better announcer though since most television commentators are unbearable.

He said something sort of like that. It was after the uproar when he first hit the shot, and during the time the officials were watching the replay. Bob said something to the effect of, "Brian Williams hits an amazing last-second shot, and this will be huge if it counts. Bert, I couldn't tell if it went through the hoop before time expired or not." And then he kept on talking.

I couldn't tell if he just mis-spoke or if he really thought that was the rule. It happened quickly.

he's been calling basketball for a long time so I would guess he misspoke with all the excitement. I'm sure Bert was bouncing around like a 6yo who snorted a dozen pixie sticks and didn't help much :p

I listened to the game on the Radio.

Ol' Bob said the refs are reviewing the video to see if the ball was inside the cylinder before time expired (before the buzzer).

Bob Sucks.

Great embassador of the University.
Not the greatest play by play guy.
Better in basketball than football though.

Bob does a fine job unless you choose to watch the game while listening to his call. What he says is not always what actually occurs.

That's plain dumb.

Even in the excitement of the moment, I don't know why he would state the rule wrong.

He must be a big hockey fan.

If Fulamanure hadn't run the football program in the crapper more attention would be given to Slob Kesling and how absolutely atrocious he is at his job. As Dooley builds the program back Kesling will start feeling a little heat. I think he reached his full potential working with Bill Williams and Edie Ellis at WBIR.

That was me commenting last night and yup he said it. I sat there thinking that surely I had missed a rule change or something and that there was no way he'd mess up this rule. And then I realized it was bob.

More surprised bert didn't correct him. He went along with it.

Before you criticize Bob Kesling, listen to other teams announcers. I live in Kentucky and hearing UK's announcers they have now, you would appreciate Bob more. Uk's announcers are so slow, you can finish their sentence before they do.

I think yall are mistaking the reasoning for his comment.

I don't think he meant that comment as in to see if the basket counted, (in reference to his "See if the basket was made before time expired" comment), it was more to see if there would be any time left after the basket was made or if time expired and the game was over.

I think it was reported incorrectly that the refs were checking to see if the basket counted, because I don't think there was any doubt he released it in time, even if real-time I had no doubt. But I think they were actually checking to see if any time should be put back on the clock. That's what I'm thinking that Bob was meaning to talk about any it just got put into the conversation and sounded like he was talking about if the basket should count or not.

That's my take anyways.

I don't know - it was pretty clear the entire game that the white dude announcer was impartial towards UGA. Jay Williams was good on the color. But the other dude lost his business every time UGA scored. I think he was so disappointed that UGA lost he was looking for any reason to wave off the basket - including some asinine possession comment.
