Official Global Warming thread (merged)

again, why the point? I wasn't asking what the word actually means. I don't think anyone is arguing that temperatures are on the rise, however minutely that might be. The real question is about causation, which his comments have nothing to do with.

IF there is an ongoing climate change, it is nothing that the earth has not experienced many many times in the last 5 billion years. I think mankind has alot more immediate problems to worry about. I think it's like 999 on my list.

He kind of did, I guess. Cold air is typically dry. It's actually warm moist air forced aloft with colder surface conditions that form snow. If you have cold air coming down, somewhere you have warm air going up. This is what is called a "mid latitude cyclone" and it what drives the weather for much of the United States. A destabilized climate pattern leads to more winter storm events, thus more snow.

Hence "climate change" as people don't understand that "global warming" doesn't mean everywhere will be warmer all the time.

I love how everyone has an opinion on the weather, despite not understanding how it works.

Excellent post, especially the last sentence.

If you have 999 problems, is a **tch one of them?

Yesterday 71% of the lower forty eight had snow cover.

Tonight the expected low here is in the single digits.

Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: News :: Winter may be coldest in 1000 years

BRITAIN’S winter is the coldest since 1683 and close to being the chilliest in nearly 1,000 years.

Latest figures reveal that the average temperature since December 1 has been a perishing -1C.

That makes it the second coldest since records began in 1659.

The chilliest on record was 1683/84, when the average was -1.17C and the River Thames froze over for two months.

But with January and February to come, experts believe we could suffer the most freezing cold winter in the last 1,000 years.

Why hasn't the thames froze?

one thing is for sure, it has nothing to do with global climate change

The Frost Fairs: the frozen River Thames in London | History and traditions of England

The tidal, somewhat salty Thames is a deep, fast-flowing river today, but before the Old London Bridge was demolished in 1831, the river’s waters were pooled slightly behind the medieval arches, which probably helped the ice take hold.

Are you suggesting there is some other cause to the "minutely" (sic) increasing temperatures than anthropogenic emissions?

Is this you trying to quibble again? I can see your argument now - volcanoes and solar irradiance play a part in the heat budget of the planet....

We can break out the radiative forcing data if you want. Do you want that?

2010 wasn't even as warm as 1934.

Of the last 10,500 years 2010 doesn't even rank in the top 500 warmest years.

Over 3,500 of the last 5,000 years have been warmer than 2010.

You're nothing but a scare mongering alarmist, maybe this will help you out:

Animated video attempts to explain the global warming debate - National Climate Change | Examiner.com

No way 2010 was that cold, globally. No way in hell. You're saying it was colder than the Little Ice Age and the Meander Minimum. That's horse ****.

Recently we had a Nobel Prize winner in town. His prize was in economics and the speech was primarily about how climate change affects the global economy. During the Q&A someone asked if he believed in climate change to which he replied, "I'm kind of like the Baptist preacher when asked if he believed in infant baptism he replied, not only to I believe in it but I've seen it." He wasn't a big fan of Gore's sexing up the topic and played the causes of climate change down the middle of the course citing both man made and natural (sunspots, El Nina, etc) causes. He pissed off several tree huggers who assumed that he was going to plug Earth in the Balance but pissed off off a few other folks who don't believe that a few hundred million cars won't affect anything.

I'd love to hear how El Nina (whatever the hell that is) is responsible for global climate change.

It is pure horse **** to say that a gradual rise over
a 30 year period is becaue of AGW if you take the
least amount of time to consider any lengthy time
period.

2010 is the hottest year on record.

It's over, Rock.

Pure political poppycock, realistic rebuttal:

Oh My! 2010 tied for 'hottest' year?! Relax, it is 'purely a political statement' -- Even NASA's Hansen admits it is 'not particularly important' -- Prof. mocks 'hottest decade' claim as 'a joke' | Climate Depot

I'd love to hear how El Nina (whatever the hell that is) is responsible for global climate change.

If you don't know that oceanic ossilations have
more to do with global climate than CO2 levels,
I don't know what to tell you.

I gave you more credit for intelligence than that.

Weird. It's like magic.

A family member of mine (who happens to be gay) once called his ability to tell if another man is gay by looking at him "gaydar". What would we call the alarm that goes off for you when a global warming related thread is started TT?

No cartoons in hurr, I'm disappointed.

If you don't know that there is no such thing as "El Nina," I am not surprised.
