Source inside says CBP is gone. (rumor)

Widespread cover-up doesn't seem like an exaggeration at all.

Absolutely. When you lie to your governing body, tell your assistant coaches to lie to the governing body, tell the recruits to lie to the governing body, and then encourage their parents to lie to the governing body, I'd probably consider that to be pretty minor. I'm sure the NCAA sees it that way too.

Obviously hamilton and alive viewed it as no more than a jaywalking ticket.

The facts of what happened and what was said have not been released by the AA. When that is done we will deal with it. If you people who want Pearl gone get your way then I can see the post on this board now. " Boy did
we play a good game last night, we beat Austin Peay last night by points. If we keep playing like this we may win 15 games this year. " I can hardly wait, lmao.

Nobody knows what the NCAA will do, and if they say they know, they are lying (isn't that what Pearl did?). The NCAA doesn't even know what is coming yet. It's fine to make predictions, but don't pretend to have inside information from a source at UT on something that hasn't been determined by the NCAA yet. No one at UT knows the outcome. There are so many predictions out there right now that we are almost guaranteed that someone will have "predicted" the correct answer.

Now, UT may have already made up their mind as to Pearl's fate, and some on this board may have access to that information. MH, however, said yesterday that "the current plan is to retain...Bruce Pearl". MH may mean what he says, or it may be the proverbial "vote of confidence."

If UT is penalized similar to USC in football and basketball, I'll be shocked. USC coaches also lied to the NCAA about not knowing their players were receiving benefits. Heck, they are still in denial to some degree. So, does the NCAA impose similar penalties on UT as they did USC, when Pearl lied about a barbeque, and they lied about players receiving cars, condos, money, HDTVs, etc.?

Good post. These rumors are killing the basketball program. I believe MH has a sense of what the NCAA may hand down in penalties. He mentioned probation (no post season ban) and a loss of schollys. The self-imposed penalties may carry more weight with the NCAA than most think.

They released the letter the AD sent to Pearl. What I mentioned in that post was in the letter.

I'd rather beat Austin Peay, than get beat by the College of Charleston.

Someone should go back and pull the posts of those wanting rid of CBP and see what they said during the Greene and Buzzball eras.

No one is advocating Pearl's removal because of the results on the floor. Keep up.

Then you would know that this situation is not at all comparable to Green and Peterson.

I'm just not ready to jump and fire Pearl. I really do not believe this is a firing offense in any manner. Geez man, coaches do worse things all the time and receive very little punishment.
Should he be punished, yes. But way short of firing, in my opinion.
It isn't bad enough to put this program back to those eras.
Mike Slime has already hit him hard and I fear the 8 game suspension will wind up being just unnecessary 'additional' punishment.
We'll see.

So could we theorize that Hamilton knows the verdict, and others in the athletic department have also found out? Could that be a remote possibility?

Absolutely not...The only people who would know anything would be Mike Hamilton and the president of the university and soon after they would inform Pearl but none of them would say anything to anyone about it as it is confidencial business until released by the university....And as soon as that happens the media is all over it...These rumors get started by some of these 12 year olds on here wanting to start threads for attention....Believe me, If there was smoke there would already be fire.

Mike Hamilton has done only one thing right as AD, and that is hiring Bruce Pearl.

Without Pearl we would be in the same black hole that Petersen and ONeal shoved us into.

Pearl puts fannys in the seats, gets us on ESPN primetime, and gives us a chance at dominance in a sport we really haven't excelled in since the Ernie and Bernie show.

Anyone wanting him gone should just start pulling for Vanderbilt.

Kentucky has the biggest cheater ever as a coach. In football Cam Newton and his dad made some serious cash from Auburn. Urban Meyer is a drama queen. And we complain about some texts and a bbq.

Get a life, Bruce IS UT basketball.

If he leaves I will just watch the women play because we can only go down if he leaves.

I hope Hamilton realizes this.

Bruce alot of us support you, the rest can just jump on another bandwagon.

No he's not. He is the coach of the men's basketball team at the University of Tennessee. No more, no less. For now, at least.

Sounds like you're the one on a bandwagon.

I am a parent in fact. I understand you point of view. Lying is usually not a good idea.
But my point is that other coaches have done alot worse with no suspensions.Maybe its just me, but just feel like the punishment doesn't fit the crime here.
Thats all.
I am for Pearl and if he is let go, the Basketball program is back a few years.
Probation I can see. 2 years likely.

You know, I find it fascinating, this idea that if you lie about it versus telling the truth then it's different. I'm a parent and I understand the desire to want the truth. But in the end, all someone is doing when they tell the truth is self-preservation. The idea that we need the truth, to me, is a selfish thing. We just want to make sure we know what is going on, without real regard for what we are dealing with. If somebody lies, they will do it again. And, we have all lied. You might want to argue about the severity of them and I would be glad to do that with someone, but in the end wanting someone to tell the truth is more about that person than the liar. Ultimately I want my kid to understand what he's doing is harming his reputation. Whether I know what actually happened doesn't really concern me.

You can't possibly mean this.

I dont believe this for a second----basically for a lie and a secondary coach.....Pearl will be suspended for 8 games this yr, lose 1.5 million dollars, not be able to recruit off campus for a yr, be suspended for another yr, lose scholarships.

Talk about the punishment not fitting the crime.

Everyone needs to grow a pair wait until the NCAA rules and move on from there...if it means we have to move on without Pearl then so be it. There are other great coaches out there.

Its alot harder to find that coach then the fire B Pearl crowd wants to believe but hopefully we will make that right choice.

We will have the pick of the litter when it comes to coaches. Book it! :)

Some of you thinking Bruce Pearl is bigger than the program need to wake up. Bruce has done great things for UT basketball, but he is not our only good option - and probably not the best.

UT basketball offers something right now that it hasn't in the past. Great facilities, a fanbase that cares, and a stocked cupboard. I've been on the Pearl bandwagon for years, but now I'm saying bring in someone new.
