I feel like us being the school that College gameday comes to this weekend will end up being a bad thing for the program.

It is going to be a 2 hour magnifiying glass on how bad things are going right now in our BBall program.

Recruits will be watching and will see how bad it really is.

Lost 6 of 8, assistant coaches yelling at each other, coach suspended, most likely going to be suspended again for a year.

This has turned into a nightmare...:cray:

Not that I have inside info but I think Pearl will not be back after the season.

At this point, the constant rants in the media about the Pearl situation is a good thing. Everyone already knows about the issues unless they live in some sort of cave. Having your name in the spotlight is almost always a good thing. The continued berating of Pearl falls under the "all publicity is good publicity" umbrella unless any new ground breaking information comes out.

This is the Lane Kiffin school of publicity.

This is the Lane Kiffin school of publicity.

Kiffin did a marvelous job of keeping the program in the lime light despite a mediocre talent level. If not for his departure, he would have done wonders with the team this season. He didnt get in any serious trouble, didnt lie to investigators, and kept UT on the front page despite his somewhat bizarre semantics.

If by this you mean he would have stripped what dignity the program has left, I agree. He was a clown before coming here, a clown while he was here, and will always be a clown. USC will regret hiring him, book it!

For those of us who think the situation has been talked about too much during the telecasts so far, wait for Saturday. It'll reach a whole new dimension. I'm not so much worried about that affecting recruits as I am the way we've been playing lately. What part of our style of play would encourage a top recruit to come here? I realize Tobias did but even with him, we don't see alot of the point/forward play he came here for.

Is our class set for next year? We've got to have a big man in a bad kind of way.

What happened to the team that beat Villanova and Pitt? Have they flown south for the winter? The difference between that team and our current team is like night and day different. No offense against Tony, and he is probably doing the best he can but I think we beat FL if Pearl was on the sideline. I didn't see the AR game so I don't know about that. If we had been hitting the 3s last night that would have made all the difference but still too many turnovers.

Whatever you guys think I guess. I dont think the BP media spotlight is necessarily bad right now. Nothing new is coming out and everything is in limbo until the NCAA releases their punishment. Would you rather fade off into oblivion until the NCAA issues their statement and then get blasted right back on the main page? Or would you like to continue to be on the front page and in the sports convo until then? Seems pretty easy for me to decide.

Horrendous FT shooting hasn't helped our cause either. Also the lack of perimeter D....I don't get it either.

I'd rather be on the front page for winning games with a veteran team rather than being continously blasted over a lie about a stinking barbque, but that's just me.

Thats the thing. If you win games like the Nova and Pitt strecth, then Pearl becomes less of the issue and the winning and potential becomes more. However, blasting Pearl offers an excuse to the public and deflection from some of the bad losses. If Pearl were on the sideline with no looming penalties and this team was losing like this, everyone would think the program is headed to the ****ter. Although it might be depending on the outcome, the BP situation offers deflection from some of the real problems if present.

I see your point and you may be right. I just don't think this team loses the games that they have and may not have won the ones they did without all of this going on. There's no way a guy, anyone, can coach knowing his career may be in jeopardy. I don't see how that helps anyone involved with the program.

I agree. Its obvious that this situation is bad. But given the circumstances, its better for Pearl to be getting this attention. Oklahoma had a big hand in the Kelvin Sampson fiasco, however, since the media blasted him forever about it, Oklahoma seems like they were just collateral damage. Let BP be the target for this bc he brought it on himself. However, if you dont fire him, it will always follow him everywhere. The UMass/Camby situation haunted Cal at Memphis every time a sketchy issue came up. You can imagine how much bigger it would have been if he was still at UMass

True. But, Pearl's been targeted since his days under Tom Davis. No way he stays as an assistant and DII coach all those years without that hanging over his head. IMO, it stays with him the rest of his career, regardless of if he's fired or not. One of the biggest issues I have is with the 'AA. They were quick to rule on Cam and the OSU players. They've got the info. Get it out there, make the decision, and be done with it.

Dont even get me started with the NCAA. The Derrick Rose/SAT fiasco let me know all I needed about the NCAA. They never proved he didnt take it, they just used a loophole to invalidate the test retroactively and then claimed that since he has no official SAT score that he was academically ineligible to play for us in 07-08. Yea, they can all bite me.

The best thing is don't showup for Gameday. That'll teach ESPN to come here again.

anyone know where you can go to get the pictures blown up to make signs like they usually have on gameday. The people with the huge Dick Vitale faces or Digger Phelps faces? I was thinking about blowing up a Bruce Pearl one and bringing it to gameday on saturday

Why is ESPN having gameday in Knoxville? Pearl can't coach in the game and we are 10-6 this year. Is there not better games on Saturday that they could go to?

Gameday locations are determined well in advance. I would assume it was done during the run of greatness early this season or maybe even preseason.
