There are countless threads about Brucie. I'd love to focus a thread soley on the relationship between Bruce and his players/staff as it pertains to respect.

Over Christmas Eve dinner last night, my father (former coach) told me in his opinion, the issue is respect(lack thereof) He said that with the whole fiasco, the players lost (even an ounce) of respect for Bruce. In turn, BP now has a diminished ability to motivate and demand effort from them. They feared/respected him beforehand. Now they, ever-so-slightly question his authority on just about everything. This cut, that pass, this screen, that "screen-ice". Even if soley in their mind and for a split second. They naturally got themselves up for the Pitt/Nova games was his response to the great effort they showed in those wins. In my father's opinion, BP screwed up, and its cost him with his players as much as anywhere else. I'm not 100% convinced, and he's not 100% certain, as we aren't in TBa every day. I just found it an interesting angle that hadn't been torn apart like all the others. Please offer your thoughts, experiences, and opinions. Merry Christmas- Kush.

But I don't know if they had a great fear before, though. It isn't like he demands perfection.

What makes him think they are questioning every little thing?

I'm not buying this at all. I wouldn't care at all about Pearl's situation in regards to his coaching on the floor

So they only get themselves up for games they want to get themselves up for.

Deep.

Complete pisshaw!!! Team loves CBP. We'll find out how much if he is forced out! Them against the world, and they have CPB's back as they have stated over and over. Look, the Oakland game was just a tough game right after smashing Pitt, Charlotte was completely overlooked by the players, USC = problems for us,not sure why. Belmont is a damn good mid major 9-3 and their only losses are twice to us and once at Vandy. Pearl hasn't lost this team,he is working to find the right rotations before serving his suspension and entering the SEC schedule (the important games). We will be fine and by march all the new pieces will have found their place and we will take our deepest run into the NCAA's. The we have to see how the NCAA (national communists against athletes) treats Bruce the Almighty!!!

I buy it.

You cant have a seasoned McDonalds All American in Hopson, a top 5 freshman in Tobias, and solid seasoned players around them and still lose to these type of teams. Unless Prince and Chism were really THAT good.

What changed after the Pitt game in regards to having to change the rotation?

If you lose the respect you once had, your response to instruction, in preparation, in game response, everything would suffer.

I think with the comments from the 'AA after that game, our Athletic Department has taken the hint and subsequently CBP has as well. I'm pretty sure he believes he will be suspended at least 1 year, and lose his job because of that.

Just my two cents, could be wrong.

He is gone....it is a shame too. We went from a football university to a basketball university.....now we'll simply be a women's basketball university while Dooley builds hopefully....LULZ Nation....LULZ.

Silly. Just another anti Pearl rant.

Where were these armchair psychological analysis threads after we had beaten two top-ten teams? Instead, I was reading posts about us going 17-0.

To me this argument smacks more of your father and what he believes the players should think the current Vols Players respect level should be at. I don't think players today look at coaches as role models today like your father and his generation did. I think for the most part the players themselves look more at what can he do for me and what's my chances of either winning a championship or getting to the net level with this guy as my coach, period. The other thing is these kids look as CBP more like a family member and I don't think the players view this issue as say Pearls sin against the NCAA is minor in their eyes say versus someone like Coach Cal that folks believe he got those players illegal benefits. The thing I see is what most are used to seeing schools and coaches act like, but in our case the school choose to fine and punish and the coach choose to stick around even with the punishment pending. A rare thing indeed for a man to actually pay for his sins. What most were expecting to see him get fired and Tennessee take a step back in basketball with the combo of a new coach and the selfimposed, the SEC, and the NCAA punishments. Here is how I see it one Bruce is and has made men's bball relevent at UT, two Bruce has more of my respect for facing his punishment like a man versus running like the scared little wimp your dad would like for him to do, and lastly Coach Bruce Pearl should be praised for his facing the music.
