For those of us tired of seeing a 6'10 300 pound man do a power dribble spin move hook shot while fading away from the basket.

There's no excuse why someone his size should not be able to get 10+ rebounds and 10+ points a game in the paint.

If he's not the softest 5 man in the country i don't know who is.

He had 9 pts, 9 rebs and absolutely went to war with their 5 tonight. He was anything but soft. If you want to talk soft, talk about Scotty Hopson.

By war do you mean let their 5 abuse him offensively? There was little to no defense played by him tonight. Atleast Hopson made free throws which is more than i can say for Williams. It's not even that he missed them, but he looked scared at the line.

Brian Williams has given more for this team in his career than golden boy Scotty.

Brian did indeed go to war tonight and he was not "abused" by their big men. We lost tonight because out guards don't know how to play defense and put a hand in shooter's faces.

Stephenson had 13 pts, 7 rebs. Williams had 9 pts, 9 rebs. Try watching the game before throwing one of the few that gave everything they had tonight under the bus.

The fact that Softy Flopson is a leader for this team is the reason this team is as unreliable as it is.

I agree. Stephenson was on the floor 39 minutes to get those points. I get frustrated at Williams inability to finish plays close to the rim at times myself. But his effort was solid tonight. Pearl spoke highly of our interior D in postgame, especially in the post.

Brian Williams is the only Volunteer that showed up tonight!! Cam Tatum and Tobias quietly scored their points and that's it. Anyone who thinks Brian played soft tonight needs to watch more basketball. Free throws are atrocious though.

What game were you watching? Of all the guys who played awful you call out BW? BW played with heart all game. Aside from airballing a ft he played damn good. I hope this thread gets deleted.

All the responses i've seen have to do with heart, hustle, etc. Nowhere do i see he played a fundamentally sound, skilled game. Let several passes go between his hands and single handily stopped a few fast breaks.

You can play with all the heart you want but anyone can stand around in the paint for 30 minutes and take up space. I want to see him be aggressive and draw more contact and finish around the rim.

Funny i didn't see Williams out guarding those 3's and wide open shots SC were hitting. It's not a mistake or coincidence that other teams shooting percentage goes up when they play Tennessee. It's not hard to hit wide open uncontested shots. When they're not doing that they're fouling like crazy. Tennessee's guards do more watching than guarding.

Rotation of this team is killing any momentum. Like watching a yo-yo. First group gives good offense, second group no offense and lousy defense. Too much momentum swing for the first group to make up. Until this is solved, I don't see us being able to compete for 40 minutes.

Dude, Williams battled last night with a good player. Please stop slamming players for what you think isn't good, when in fact it's much better than most of the other players are giving. Good grief.

He is just not very good offensively. not a good shooter!

When you've got guards who can't shoot outside, this is a problem.

Williams certainly seems to be putting a lot of effort on the court and does some nice things defensively, but let's face it: he's too clumsy to be a dominate offensive player.

If we're needing him to do anything more than some easy shots and put-backs down the stretch, we're in trouble. He's turnover-prone and 1 of 4 foul shooting will get you beat in close games.

Why we went to him in the next to last possession is a mystery to me.

This. His Free Throw shooting kills us also.

Yeah, he did a terrible job. He held their post who was averaging 16 pts and 10 boards a game to 4 pts. and 2 boards. He simply is just too soft to help this team. You apparently did not watch the game. It was a war inside with Williams and their post. We should be able to win if Williams could consistently play as he did last night. We only out-rebounded them by about 15 boards last night. Hopson is the reason for our three game skid, not Williams.
