I agree...Knoxvillians wouldn't know good food if it hit them in the face it seems. How the hell does Pueleos continue to fill their restaurant, its TERRIBLE. How has Calhouns survived, its TERRIBLE. Peerless?! OMG, the steak I had there was flavorless, and the 'fancy' snails they served was SO floating in butter because the chef had no clue how to cook them.

Sometimes I'm suprised at what restaurants survive in Knoxville, and which ones die.

(I'm a food snob, granted.)

I really like Puleo's. Calhouns isn't that good.

Have had better FROZEN pizzas than mellow mushrooms- want a good take & bake - try a Papa Murphys--much better than Pizza Hut delivery!!!!!

those three places survive because a large number of people like their food and your opinion is about as valuable as a necklace from k-mart.

I think a few of you are confused on what opinion means.

If a place sucks, people don't eat there. Maybe the dish you had wasn't, in your opinion, very good, but obviously people find stuff they like. If everyone had the same taste in food, we'd all eat the same thing. Wouldn't need a menu.

There are places I enjoy because they have one particular item I like.

My favorite pizza in Knoxville is a carryout pie from Tomato Head eaten straight out of the box on the bar at the Preservation Pub.

Tried the spaghetti w/meat sauce and mushrooms last nite at Pizza palace-- coupled with the salad w/roquefort and grilled garlic bread ---FABULOUS !!!!!!! Try It.

There is a place on Clinton Hwy called Pizza Inn that is really great. It's a buffet, and very reasonably priced. It's close to Merchants Rd. They are usually always crowded, which tends to be a good sign.

Pizza Inn is a slight step above Gatti's and CiCi's.

Pizza Inn used to be great-- not many left-- anyone remember Shakey's Pizza & ye olde public house??? Great in their days- I think there are only 3-4 left in the whole U.S.- How is the Mr. Gatti's in Pigeon Forge?

I've never had a bad pizza from Mellow Mushroom or Brixx. My wife has celiac disease and MM actually has a gluten-free crust now that is really good. The place on Northshore (Pizza Kitchen?) isn't bad either (and also has gluten-free pizzas). I will comment that I don't like greasy pizzas, so my opinion may be skewed. On a less traditional slant, Lakeside Tavern and the DTGB aren't bad, either.

My favorites are Dazzo's in Knoxville, Big Ed's in Oak Ridge, and Metro Pizza in Maryville.
Barley's is also pretty fun, just because the pizza is good and they have a solid beer selection.

I've spent a lot of money at Barley's.

It is "just ok". Usually there are a bunch of kids/teenagers running around all over the place, and it tends to be sort of dirty. Pizza Inn is waaay better.

pizza inn has to be one of the nastiest pizza's i've ever eaten counting any frozen pizza. They ordered us pizza for dinner when i worked night shift, no one ate more than 2-3 pieces and about an hour later you see 30 guys running back and forth to the bathroom....after that you couldn't give me enough money to eat at that place again
