Who should be allowed to vote?

I don't know, but I don't think I would want to live in your country buck. I would be willing to offer work as a defense contractor, for the right price, however. I have a feeling I would put in a lot of hours.

I think the first thing we should fix, as far as voting goes, however, is the closed ballet election of Speaker, in Tennessee.

Well I had an honest question. No reason to try and be condescending. When I made less than 30k and rented I hardly got everything back at tax time.

That point has me wondering...do the majority of renters not pay taxes? Almost every renter I know does..but I live in a high-rent area of the country. I paid plenty of taxes when I rented in Knoxville as well. I'm sure Droski pays taxes. But, again, I am just basing this off the subset I know. I don't have a good profile on renters over the entire US (and no doubt low-income rental properties, of which there are many, are going to have a lot of non-tax payers).

However, if you are working and just not making enough to owe taxes under the current system, I'm not sure why this means you shouldn't be allowed to vote....

We run IS scores on people, which we say aren't based on credit but are, and most times the renters have mucxh worse credit than the home owners across the board. There are exceptions. A renter in Brentwood will normally have the same IS as a home owner in any other city but there aren't very many ares that i can say this about. I understand credit and income are not exactly the same but in my experience the high the income the better the IS is. Also, my wife and I are renting ourselves right now as we are building our home.

All states need to insure that absentee ballots are sent to members of our armed services who are on active duty in a timely manner. If anyone deserves to vote, they surely do.

Proof of citizenship should be provided when registering to vote.

Proof of identity should be provided before anyone is allowed to vote and those who register and vote in multiple precincts should be prosecuted.

Those who participate in voter registering drives and who violate laws concerning voter registration should be convicted of a felony and jailed.

Those are a few of the things that need to be done immediately, otherwise the general public is going to lose what little confidence they have in the current political process and that can't be construed as a good thing.

It just doesn't seem like any of that would be all that hard to enforce.

If people aren't allowed to vote would those people also be exempt from serving in the military if a draft ever came about?

It also made me think about kids working under 18. How come they aren't able to vote? They pay taxes, it's taxation without representation.

The country at its inception had absolutely no conception of a very large class of people who were dependent on the gov't and voted to give themselves raises out of the pockets of other people. In fact, that idea was anathema to what they believed.

So before we start claiming what the founders would say... They might well believe that anyone receiving a transfer payment from the gov't should be exempted from voting. We don't know because they held property rights so sacred that they would not have considered the problem.

They are represented through their local congressman and state senator. That is what representation actually is intended to mean. We're actually a republic not a democracy. The founding fathers set up the electoral college because they did not want a majority wins situation.

As far as the draft thing goes, I was born in Parkersburg WV. You wanna see who gets drafted check out that cities graveyard. The draft is fubar. They draft the poor. Flat out.

To gs's points above, States should be required to give a paper receipt of using electronic voting equipment. I get a damn receipt from my atm, why not from the polls.

Do think women should be allowed to vote as long as they can prove their vote is based on logic and not emotion :).

I'm in favor of excluding those who leech off of society from the right to vote, but having to be a landowner to vote is just plain silly. There are lots of good, hard working people who do not own land.

Once again, for those who seem to have missed this, if you are not a land owner, business owner or military but you are employed at the age of 30 you can vote. I am simply trying to limit the vote to people who have some life experience, understand living on a budget, or have earned the right to vote.

IF YOU ARE EMPLOYED BUT DON"T OWN LAND YOU CAN VOTE AT AGE 30.
