I'll start with the negatives, and follow up with the positives.
Negative Nancy
1. Ducks fans; Stay classy, remain humble. Think 2007, and you'll understand why I'm saying this. These opportunities haven't come often for the Ducks, so enjoy the moment, but remember where and what Oregon's program has come from.
2. If ever a team lines up for 4 quarters, and runs downhill at the Ducks, you'll really see the boys from Oregon sweat. The Ducks are small up front, and have been pushed around from time to time against opposing offenses.
3. The defense as a whole is a relative unknown. I don't know how they'll fare against a legit and explosive offense. I think the unit is solid, but they're far from great. I expect USC to put up points.
4. Before we go proclaiming the Ducks the greatest team in the world, gather yourselves, and think back to 2008. Oklahoma ended up having the highest scoring offense of all time. Ran a hybrid spread, no huddle offense. Blew most everyone they played off the map. Put up 60 or more points 5 times, more than 50 8 times, and only scored under 40 once. They put up 35 in that game. They then went on to the National Title game and only mustered a measly 14 points. And I'd say that Oklahoma team had a tad bit more talent than Oregon's offense. Just giving people a little perspective.
5. Going for it on 4th and 6th in the middle of the field is going to cost the Ducks one of these days.
6. The Ducks have only played one team that's above .500 this season. Just saying.
Positive Pete
1. The Ducks are an amazing offensive team. Extremely fun to watch. Best offense since the 08 Oklahoma offense. I'm officially titling them "The Autzen Blitzkrieg".
2. If the Ducks beat USC next week, they're going to the National Title game. I don't see any other game on their schedule that could wind up being a loss. Washington isn't very good and is inconsistent, Oregon State isn't the same without James Rodgers, Arizona is overrated in my opinion, and Cal sucks. They beat SC, and they're in. Hopefully they'll put up 70 on Kiffen and company.
3. Does Chip Kelly remind anyone else of the 90's SOS? Think about it. A rookie coach comes in and takes over a program who's never won a title. They have an immediate impact, and take their team to heights that previously seemed unattainable. The cocky bastard brings in an explosive offense, and has no issue with running up the score, taking chances, and offending people. The program becomes a perennial contender(yet to be determined in Oregon's case), etc, etc, etc. I'm not saying Chip will be as successful as SOS, but he really reminds me of the old ball coach.
4. This season will prove to be very fruitful for Oregon. This offense, coupled with the massive amounts of national attention the Ducks are receiving, will land the program a very solid recruiting class. I'm calling it now. They'll land one of, George Farmer, Marqise Lee, or Devon Blackmon. How's a Farmer/Lee packaged deal sound Duck fans?
5. The Ducks are tremendously better without Jeremiah Masoli. Who would've thought that Masoli being arrested and booted from the team would turn out to be a positive for Oregon?
6. The potential for Oregon taking that next step into the status of "elite program" is becoming brighter and brighter. Will they? The odds are against them, but who knows? They could become the Oklahoma(of course they don't have the tradition and history) of the Pac-12. Meaning, they'll poach on the talent of a neighboring state, becoming an alternative for Californian prospects who chose against going to USC(Texas), and consistently challenge for a Pac-12 title. I see Ducks ruling the northern division, and SC the southern division. Taking that next step is dependent upon the Ducks going to the NC game.
7. Owamagbe Odighizuwa is probably second guessing his decision to attend UCLA. He should've just stayed home and went green.
