YOu are right. The tackling as a whole has been terrible. I expect more of Jackson since he is our biggest name on defense.

I'm pretty sure he is trying his best and will improve over time in all aspects of his game. Try to relax and just be thankful we have him. Our guys need our support right now....not criticism.

Guy knocked the wind outta Green in mid-air.. Coulda swear it looked like he cracked some ribs, but it was a nasty hit. Hes the best DB we got, and is gonna be the closest thing to EB for awhile.

I actually like him better when he goes off of his feet and throws that shoulder at the opponent, rather than trying to wrap up all of the time. I know his mom and coach don't like it but when he hits you he brings the wood and doesn't miss often. He changed how he tackles this year because the coaching staff told him to. Last week when he left his feet and hit Green he almost put him on the sideline for the rest of the game.

Bringing the shoulder on a WR going for a catch is fine. Otherwise, wrap the eff up.

You mean the play where green caught the ball for a huge gain? Pardon me if I don't get excited when the other team gets big yardage.

If Jackson were to miss one game, you would find out very quickly how much difference he makes.

Not many teams flourish in wrapping up anymore. Guys dont get on the highlight reel by doing a perfect roll-tackle or keeping his feet pumping and driving the man into the ground. They get on ESPN by smokin a guy while keeping their feet. People praise the big hit. Who can fault the kids?

Its an epidemic that is hitting all of football. I watch high schoolers do the same thing and the coaches dont say anything until the big hit comes.

I agree he was better last game, but for the season overall his tackling has been terrible. He does knock the snot out of people, but I think that is his biggest problem. He wants to make Sportcenter with every play. Just wrap up and tackle.

Everyone wants to make sportscenter, and I'm sure he tells himself to wrap up but when he sees his next victim instinct takes over and he tries to bust that dome

Want to know why nobody has been able to throw a successful deep bomb on UT the last two years? Janzen Jackson.

Also, Janzen is BY FAR the best player on this team. People, he's not a SS. He's not going to make a 100 tackles like EB. JJ's job is to make sure that if somebody gets beat deep, he gets to the ball to make a play, or if the guy catches it to make the ball and the man separate. Look at the LSU pick. The NCB got burned on the out route. Janzen read the QB's eyes and made a heck of a play. That is why he is here. Should he wrap up more? Yes. But more often than not his guy goes down.

janzen is the "veteran" in our secondary and is only a true soph. think about that.

Kinda what I was getting at by mentioning that he's a safety for a reason. People assume that all positions should be as skilled tacklers as a MLB and that's just not always going to be the case. Janzen is called to read the QB and know where the play is going, as you mentioned, then make sure that, as the last line of defense, it doesn't get past him. He's doing his job, and if you never go for the big hit, you'll never reap the rewards.

Just another crazy arse thread in a week full of them. JJ's biggest problem with fans is that he is not eric berry, and for the record i never remember him saying he was eric berry.

he had a stinker of a game at UAB but other than that he has been very good especially on ST. He has been a monster covering KR and PR's

He started out with some of the Sophomore Slumps early but has rebounded and has played as solidly as anyone on the team. Hit like a truck last weekend and has been all over the field. Has also dominated special teams which may be wearing him down a bit as a game goes along.

He is definitely the best player on the team and with a pass rush our secondary as a whole would get exposed less

If you don't like what you see at his position I suggest you not watch the game as it only goes downhill from there

There's no doubt that Janzen is our most talented defensive player, but he could improve if he wrapped up on his tackles. This is an observation not a complaint. It's like when people bring up Favre's tendency to throw picks. You take the good with the bad. Its great to see some of the big hits that Janzen lays on Saturdays, but then its frustrating when your best player misses a tackle because he didn't wrap up. It is what it is.

yeah but Janzen at least knocks the snot out of someone on occassion.. he is great on special teams too... almost always the first one on the tackle.. he has gotten better as the season has progressed..

This.

He is a beast on special teams.

Janzen is a head hunter and I wish the Vols had another seven or eight players like him. He wants to inflict as much punishment as possible on every play...reminds me of the way Raynoch Thompson played
