An observation of Janzen Jackson

hmm interesting. I saw him miss tackles last year but he rarely missed tackles this year, and I watched every single snaps. he DOES wrap up whenever necessary, delivers big hits, intercepts the ball...what more could you ask for? there is a reason why the staff speak highly of him and nearly gave him a perfect score on some of our big games. he was incredible in LSU game especially.

I have not missed a snap this season and I can't count the number of tackles he has missed. I agree he is the best we have in the secondary right now, but I expect him to make the easy plays. Every hit does not need to be a highlight.

I understand what you are trying to say, but I think his positive performance on the field outweighs any mistakes he makes on game day.

Not when it costs 6 points. I think the guy has unlimited potential, I just want him to wrap up when he tackles. I have not bought into the hype yet.

OP needs to stop bashing one of our best players.

we have some of the worst so-called fans...:banghead2:

I'm one of the most positive posters on here. I'm just getting tired of nearly breaking my T.V. every Saturday because our fundamentals suck.

I will say his skills translate better to him being a Safety than a Linebacker, though. He can separate a receiver from a ball like nobody's business

I seem to remember a game against UF where a similar player was out of position defending against the fade pass to the endzone and got burnt. He was going for the interception and not staying with the WR.

That was Eric Berry in 2007.

I think you can cut Janzen some slack, he's earning it every Saturday.

Dude my ignore list on VN has been growing this season...it is amazing what losing does to people.

Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. It just seems to be happening to often this year. He has also been out of position of several deep passes where we got burned. Everybody is blaming the corners, but the safeties are responsible for helping on the deep ball. I like the guy, I just want to see more.

even Eric Berry misses tackles sometimes, and it's not because he was trying to deliver a hard hit. Same for Janzen Jackson. in some situations it's better to deliver a hit (play on AJ Green last week) and JJ does have a great instinct and makes good decisions. I'll leave it up to him because he's been really good this season.

people can be so fickle. Last year everyone, EVERYONE, was touting him as the next Eric Berry. Grow up people, He's giving his all for Tennessee!

I figured hat and sgm and fiji would have my back on this one (for once). I should have known better. Janzen was one of Kiffin's recruits.

My guess is that his big hits are reminiscent of Eric Berry at a time where we need a player of his caliber. He is looked at to be the heir of a great former Vol, and he has shown glimpses of being able to live up to that pressure.

On the pic @ LSU, he looked like 14. I really thought I was watching EB.

Why because they are the 3 most negative posters on this site?

exactly! I'm not trying to be negative. I just want the guy to wrap up when making a tackle. I've got into it with those guys so much it's not funny. I hate to be that guy, I'm just sick of nearly going postal every Saturday.

OK. Remember. It's not just Janzen out of position and not wrapping up. It's been the entire defense at several times so far through 6 games.

It's not our fault you can't count to six.

I agree he was better last game, but for the season overall his tackling has been terrible. He does knock the snot out of people, but I think that is his biggest problem. He wants to make Sportcenter with every play. Just wrap up and tackle.

I will agree with you on wrapping up for the entire defense - not just JJ. But, there have been some great DBs who never wrapped up. Dieon was the first to come to mind. As hard of a hitter as Eric Berry was, he wasn't the best at wrapping up. I would love to see JJ wrap up better as I would the whole team, but he's still a great player having that weakness. We have few great players on this team, so we tend to really go overboard on the one or two we may have.

YOu are right. The tackling as a whole has been terrible. I expect more of Jackson since he is our biggest name on defense.
