Both sides form negative opinions of the other on this issue. Bible thumping believers think non believers are going to hell and non believers in many cases believe those who do are somehow less intelligent because of it.

Neither side is innocent in this respect.

only because they do not believe in it....it is the Bible that says that, the Christian is the vessel, I do not tell you that you are going to hell if you do not believe, the Bible does, it is up to each one of us to make the decision

There was no satisfaction in stating what I have observed. I've always considered myself a religious person and I've spent countless hours since high school researching religion. I consider myself Christian, yet I'm at odds with many Christian religions. Two basic teachings common are of a trinity and eternal hellfire. Many Christians believe Israel is God's chosen people yet Jews reject Christ and they don't worship a triune god. So, from my logic, that's completely disrespectful to worship god opposite of his "chosen" people and maintain his approval.
Eternal hellfire is just so completely illogical I can't entertain the debate. If I get attacked by a stray dog so I pour gas on it and set it on fire to punish it, I'm a psycho who would be villified and put in prison (rightfully I might add) but God can do that to a human for eternity and its justified? Yea right!

I would counter this by saying that if God is who the Bible says He is (which I believe He is), that is holy and sinless/blameless and cannot stand anything less than that in His presence then He is perfectly suited/justified to do that.

That's like Joe Atheist saying:

It's the truth that there is no god or gods. It's real world all around us that says that. Atheists are just the vessel. I don't tell you you are irrational to believe in a logical fallacy, reality does, it is up to each one of us to make the decision to believe in mythological traditions or not.


In other words, it doesn't really advance the argument because it is cemented around the schism itself.

That's a matter of interpretation. There are many christian sects that do not believe nonbelievers go to hell. or at least believe that the only way to go to hell is to reject god when you die (i.e. to meet god and then say he doesn't exist which obviously most of us wouldn't do). The "i don't hate you, but i just want you to know you are going to hell" argument is really a ridiculous one. You are still telling me i'm going to hell. Not exactly a friendly thing to say.

the interpretation is not vague if you believe that the Bible is the word of God.....you either believe or you do not...."once saved always saved"?....there is a WHOLE nuther issue

So sinful man, who knows its unjust to burn a vicious animal to death, has higher standards than a sinless god who will set a human on fire for eternity for 60-80 years of wrongdoing?

You mean the literal word of god? Most christians don't believe god directly wrote the bible. i.e. humans at the minimum effected the language.

I'll argue it's fairly arrogant to say man has higher standards than God.

That said, he gives you a great escape from that through faith in Jesus. Whether or not you believe that and accept that Jesus is salvation from that punishment is up to you.

i for one cannot believe that if the christian god exists that he would damn an otherwise good person to hell for eternity simply because they weren't sure he existed.
