Heard boosters talking around me at game yesterday about Pearl. They think UT will have no choice but to fire him when all is said and done. What ya'll think?:fool:

Not one to worship Pearl, but to say they'll have "no choice" is a bit dramatic. Of course they'll have a choice.

Thats about right. Tennessee finally gets a basketball coach that is worth a darn and he makes two mistakes and UT fires him. He then moves on, learns from his mistake, continues to do well and UT looks back and realizes maybe we should have been a little more forgiving. Mark this down, if we fire Bruce Pearl it will be a huge mistake. Yes, he made a mistake that should not go unpunished but it does not deserve termination. The basketball program is the only thing Tennessee athletics has right now. Football sure as heck is not a positive and does Tennessee even have a baseball program anymore? Oh yeah! They do, it is just coached my Todd Raleigh.

Insert "By" instead of "my". Sorry folks.

From what I can tell from your post these boosters are just speculating like the rest of us.

UT is not firing Pearl.

I'm think that it is within the realm of possibility that they will be looking to make a move by April. I don't think it is a foregone conclusion as these guys were suggesting, but I think it could happen. A lot depends on the investigation/findings.

Pearl has a pretty sweet contract.

evidently with some great wording that benefits CBP. I'm a big supporter of CBP. I know he lied. I also understand that he may have only come forward because he knew he was caught. But imo, it would be a huge mistake to let him go. Not only because of what he has done and will do for the university, but also his contract is evidently worded so that even if he does get fired, he gets paid. Chalk up another great business move by Hammy. First it was the buyouts of Kiffin and staff, now this.

That is possible, but I would say not likely. UT wants to keep him. I would guess UT's biggest concern right now is a post season ban in 2012. I would even be surprised if that happen.

Of course I am just going off information that is out now. If something else comes out that could change.

I think it would be a huge mistake to fire Pearl. Id like to believe he is the type of guy who learns from his mistakes, in which case abiding by the rules will no longer be a concern. He brought energy back into a program that was in desperate need. We need to hang on to Pearl. I mean, lets be serious here... He lied to the NCAA about players being in his home and buying disposable cell phones to contact them. I know he broke the rules and it doesnt look all that great for the university, but give me a break. I would rather deal with the grief we get (mostly from the media because I dont see us getting anymore sanctions) from keeping Pearl than deal with the heartbreak of losing him and setting our basketball program back a decade...

I agree. He means so much more to this university other than the fact that he has a pretty good winning percentage. The violations and lying do not warrant a firing. Punishment? Absolutely. As much as peple don't like Hamilton, you can give him credit for giving a stern, but fair punishment. But seriously, give me a break....firing the guy? C'mon man.

If Pearl quits, will S. Pearl still play? And J. Pearl still sing?

I don't think anyone is willing to make that type of decision (firing all three Pearls). TN would fall off the map.

How in the world could you assume those people were boosters? The only way you could have possibly even guessed is if they actually directly referred to themselves as boosters. Now I'm curious; did any of them say that?
