I guess i'll throw my two cents in...
I left that game feeling just as I did when I walked down the ramp after UAB last year. A knot in my stomach, not very good, definitely wondering where the real UT team was, but glad to get the 'W'!
After several good points being made on the board about the "why the game turned out the way it did"...the bottom line is, we lost two wonderful athletes and Foster has a slight sprain if i'm not mistaken. We'll have fill those holes and make adjustments. My prayers are with Inky and Justin and their families for a full and speedy recovery.
I realize, just as everyone here, that the option offense is not something you will see everyday in an SEC stadium, so trying to disect this could go on forever. I don't believe that you change a defensive mindset for a one-off game. The UT defense is for lack of a better term - super agressive and very reactive, which is wonderful. It's gotten us a long way in past seasons. The only true way to counter a pure option offense is to play a heady sit-back and see where the ball is and have the backup covered approach before reacting to the ball. Fulmer stating that he is not going to watch the film may be a good call but there is plenty to learn from any game film. The film may help out on refining our containment and also on the offensive side of the ball where we should have been able to run for more than 79 yards with our size and speed.
If UF watches the film (and you know they will), don't be surprised to see some delay traps or counters in the play calling to take advantage of our aggressive nature to open up their run game prior to Leak letting it fly! (Which they did allot of against UCF from what the stats say-
Leak's career day (352 yards, 4 TDs) leads Florida in rout of UCF)
All in all the coming week will definitely pose some challenges from the coaching staff and also the players as we prepare for the yearly EVENT! This is our house! I feel we all want to have the same feeling we did two years ago when walking out of the stadium after the game winning field goal by Wilhoit with 6 seconds left made you feel like you were walking on air!!!!
Go BIG ORANGE ----
