What was the reason for the inquisition??

In one word "taqiyya" or deception, one of the tennets of islam.

At the end of the reign of islam on the Iberian penensula when the muslims were driven out after 700 years of total domination, there were those who still those left who were secret muslims.

During the reign of islam muslim soldiers were sent out to gather the most beautiful young girls and they were seized from their families to be sent off to be concubines to the sultans.

Exorbitant taxes were charged to those didn't declare themselves to be muslims.

The most physical young men in appearance were also taken, castrated so they would be more docile slaves, had their tongues cut out so they couldn't complain and sent back to the mideast to live the rest of their miserable lives as servants to their muslim masters.

The inquisition may have been over the top but they sure meant to rid themselves of the last roots of islam.

And when you say that "most people are idiots", I sure hope you include your own self, if not you are in great error.

Well, if you think organized religion is such a wonderful thing, then you go right on ahead and keep praying and kneeling when some clergyman in a robe says so. Sing the same songs that everyone is singing and say the same prayers that everyone is saying. Don't forget to give tithe and send your kids to Sunday school so they get a good dose of knowledge about how they should live their lives as they age. Then they can grow up and perpetuate the whole cycle with their children.

I lived that life and I have every right to say what I've said. You can say whatever the hell you think is keeping me under your boot, but we both know it's just you looking for one little chunk of what you deem as irrationality and using it as an excuse to be a little, sniveling jerk.

Fear not. I, too, was young. I thought I was the grand poobah of reason... but there's your support and reason for my hatred for the concept of organized religion. I hope experience counts.

I didn't say anything about myself bowing at the altar. I simply said that your definitive approach makes you look stupid. Many far brighter have tried to answer the questions and struggled, but here you are with the solution.

You have no idea about my spiritual approach to the world - none, yet you're speculating rampantly because I called your approach to the debate senseless. Seems to me you might not be as well reasoned as your "experience" would suggest.

See, I have taken quite a bit of Physics and in my experience, Einstein was an utter lunatic for theorizing the way he did. These guys supporting him now are just worshipers at his altar and can't know what the hell they're talking about.

I never said you DID, oh defensive one. "If you" is a purely conceptual expression. It's not a definitive approach... it's my opinion. I was in the organized religion, I saw it for what it was, I formed my own personal opinion of it, and I took that opinion and posted it here when a an opposing view was expressed. This is how arguing works. You can't admit it, but you have it out for me in this specific thread in this specific moment. If you were just here to bring down the 'stupid' opinions, then I would not be your only target... so quit playing that card. It's only fortifying the distinct possibility that you're just a (simply put) jerk.

You turned it into a place to educate us on the fact that we need to read more because someone here spells Koran differently than you do. You are an expert since you date a muslim. You have been to church and decided organized religion is bunk. What did I miss?
