Not to underestimate the seriousness of these possible problems but I love Bob Kinghts comments on the NCAA..." If the NCAA had planned D Day we would have landed in Portugal."
Judging from the job they did on USC, D Day would have come 6/6/1954 too.
Sampsons violations at IU (being an IU basketball fan) were repeat offenses from his days at Oklahoma, which Indiana brass were well aware of, still hired him and did not adequately police his behavior. However, the scuttlebutt was that his phone call issues were the tip of the iceberg and IU got him out before the NCAA unleashed all of its dogs, therefore minimizing repercussions, except of course to a very good history of deportment by Indiana with the NCAA guidelines. The other thing I think helped IU was Coach Crean coming in and pretty much cleaning house...and the new IU brass setting up "in house" monitoring. We lost some good players, maybe not great characters...I don't know, we have lost quite a few games and it will be awhile until we are contending again for Big 10 championships...I am afraid this sounds too familiar. But as my father used to say, " You lie down with a dog don't complain about getting fleas."
Looking forward to kickoff 9/4 and to the day we don't see Kiffin in our rear mirror. Oh yeah I supported Kiffin the same as I have every coach since the 1960's.
