I've used the link below for a couple of years when evaluating websites and thought it would be interesting to checkout Volnation.

volnation.com - Quantcast Audience Profile

It's an interesting website for those who are into exographics and analytics, and provides lots of different data on the visitors to specific sites. You simply insert the url of any website you would like to retrieve data on, and Quantcast provides some interesting stats (as long as the site has enough hits and is not blocked).

It's interesting to check certain sites and get feedback on the types of individuals who visit them most frequently. For example, here's another link which pulls up the same reports for theCHIVE (where many of the pictures are found that get posted in the "funny picture" thread).

Proving once and for all that a four year degree speaks nothing of one's intelligence. :)

haha... very true. However, if you compare the other sites the "same audience" also frequents, it would seem to represent a fairly knowledgeable group.

And how does this work? Its not like theres anything to select that says, college degree or no college degree, when joining VN.
Probably works off of recent came from of other sites that they have information on.

Advertisers do the same thing. They make an evaluation based upon all of your other consuming. Convert that raw score to a z score and then spit out most likely responses.

I am curious as well as to where they are getting this data.

Crazyguy is pretty much spot on. My understanding is that by tracking cookies, site visits, etc. they can then compile your information and place you in an appropriate "category" based on how you compare with everyone else. Think of it similar to some of the psychological profile tests that many businesses use from Wilson Learning, etc. You can answer a bunch of seemingly insignificant questions (e.g. do you think LG is a troll?) which by itself provides little information. But with lots of questions asked, and many of them being similar to test for consistency, they can take how you answered all of those questions... run it up against their base group which they already have plenty of information on... and then make the assumption that if you answered questions similar to category A then statistically you would probably share other common interests as category A. Once you have a solid base group with all types of other pertinent information, then statistically you can consume minimum data about anyone else and "assume to know" more behaviors and characteristics about them.
