Bash Dooley here....

Coaches calling family friends in the media and saying they are looking for work is a thing called desperation.

Nutt was unemployed for what 2, 3 days before Ole Miss hired him? Fulmer is still looking.

Enquiry is a variant of inquiry. It's actually the original form of the word dating back to the 14th century.

Could you or Lex please just support your post with something salient? If Fulmer is out there on Linked-In and running the circuit to find an HC position, I'll happily recant.

He's almost to the point of offering favors and advances.

No, that's called networking. Anyway, I know he threw his name out for Louisville and ND early, but is he really looking now? I thought he specifically said he wasn't in consideration for UT when Hollywood took off.

A coach that is actually, you know, wanted by other programs doesn't have to use Dave Hooker to put their name out there in the public eye.

I gave you an example of a coach that was fired then landed another gig.

Saying he wasn't in consideration for the Tennessee job doesn't mean much. He never got offered the job so it's pretty simple.

Fulmer is looking and no one at big BCS schools will take him. I know you can't be convinced of this, just know that he is.

How much 'looking' should a coach with his years of service need to do to be considered? I like Phil, but his coaching days are done.

Hamilton found Dooley in less than 3 days. That took some work, a lot of imagination, and pure speculation about his potential, on MH's part. But, then, again, I didn't see Dooley's file cabinets and Hamilton did.

Phil is done with coaching although he's better at it than the guy we have now (that's not saying a lot). The AD job will likely open before the next HFC coaching search is. For the most part, however, CPF should just enjoy retirement.

How do you know this? That's all I'm asking. I admit my total ignorance on the subject. He may be arranging meetings every day. I know about ND and Louisville, are there any other examples. What did Dave Hooker do for him?

Dooley is on a real short leash, if he doesn't get us to a bowl game, 75% of the UT fans are calling for his head.

THIS.

Unfortunately for CDD, despite the thin roster and monster schedule, he needs to get this team 6 wins and to a bowl game, plus at least a top 15 recruiting class before the negavol portion of the fan base will stop bashing him. I think that as long as the team avoids major injuries, with good coaching these are reasonable goals for this season.

Go CDD, Go VOLS.

He was better at it than the guy before Dooley too.

I think his coaching days are done as well; but I don't think he's "offering favors and advances" nor begging for an HC job right now. To me it sounds like he tested the waters early, and then decided, nah! He's got a good gig now, a lot less pressure; he may have only decided TN was worth it.

Again, I honestly don't know though. I don't even know who his agent is (is it Sexton?)

I know a lot of people in and around college athletics.

Dave writes all the Fulmer fluff for the KNS. He wrote about how Fulmer is looking here for a job, looking there, considered this, considered that yadda yadda yadda.

He begged for the Clemson job and got beat out by Dabo.

Boston College was another job he wanted.

Not completely indicative... you have to consider the whole package.

He did win 4 games in the WAC last year. Let's not forget how impressive that was, especially at LA Tech where no one else has done that poorly in 80 or so years.

The guy is in trouble, but by getting 5X the salary he would have earned by staying at LA Tech, even if he's fired after one year, he's got 5 years to shop around without any personal financial costs, courtesy the University of Tennessee. Great hire. Great contract.

All I'm saying is a 2-6 start to this season will not be indicative of his ability or what direction he has the program headed in...

There's not a coach out there that anyone could say with absolute certainty... "Yeah...that guy would have us 3-5/4-4/5-3/6-2 8 games into this season"

Dooley's inherited a nightmare situation that's going to take time to fix...but I'm sure that regardless of this fact there will be plenty of people on here just ripping him to shreds when we (in all likelihood) start out 2-6

Im a little ticked he has not clarified which game they will be wearing the black jerseys.

Just sayin.

That's cool. But I still think this sounds like my original scenario - he looked around, he put his name in the hat, and now he's backed off.

I'm not looking for validation on here.

I want to win, and when I feel that the product laid in front of me sucks I will say it.

That's probably the crux of the problem most of us have with your posts. There's hardly any "product" laid in front of us yet but you go ahead and declare an outcome anyway.

You need to start living in the land of reality rather than the one where you seem to believe that your constant carping is going to a) make anything better or b) change the name on the HC's door.

All I would really hope for from you is that you start looking at what he's done good or bad and be honest about both. I've said before that I think he inherited a horrible situation making his probability of success low. I'm hoping at a minimum that if he can't win he'll build the talent up to at least at the level Bama was when Saban arrived. If he averages a top 20 class, he'll get that done.

1 or 2 wins? Seriously? That thought has never crossed my mind and i sure as hell hope it hasn't crossed anybody's else's besides yours.

if you had took the time to read what i had qouted you wouldnt have sounded nearly as stupid as you do.

My concern is about recruiting and what seems to be a mindset that we can build a foundation with less than top athletes.

I am so sick of people saying this. Never did he say he thinks he can build a foundation with less than top athletes. He said he believes in recruiting guys with talent AND character. He also said that he does believe in taking risks to an extent with some who might need development - either a player with exceptional talent with room for improvement in the heart/character department OR a player with exceptional heart/character that needs to be developed on the field.

Never did he say he is going to lay the foundation with a bunch of Rudy's. Never. This is what upsets me about this situation is that people take something that is completely unfounded, or a quote and take it out of context and make a decision on whether the guy should be our HC.

Do I think Dooley was the best person to hire for this job? No. But the FACT is...none of the best wanted us. We had to get the best we could within the confines of what we were working with (which happened to be less than a month before signing day). I'm going to give the guy a few years - let him get his system in place and see what happens.

I get tired about hearing about the Dooley "upside". It's the equivalent of taking a Chicago community organizer and making him President of the United States....

Oh, wait...

Now that you put it that way, I want a coaching change too!

His record bashes him more than I ever could...

Don't give me that garbage. You guys have been spewing the same crap and climbing up the water tower with a can of paint.

He does not belong as THC. Period.

 Really? Well done on going straight to spewing the same old crap, and a point that the original poster conceded in posing his question. You'd do better to remain hatvol's sidekick when he posts about Dooley.

Let's start with recruits calling and getting no returned calls. Let's look at the kid from NC who was snubbed, never contacted until the end that went to Clemson. Let's look at Terry Joseph as the recruiting coordinator, not sure he is coordinating yet. What has he done to deserve the job as RC on his resume??

Congrats for attempting to answer the question, unlike your boy, Loften. Some valid points here, and ones that appear to point toward the staff dropping the ball in a couple of instances. Could indicate that Joseph is in over his head, and that Dooley has possibly made a mistake bringing him on board. Also interesting that our local media jumped on this expressing discontentment over the lack of media attention from Dooley. If you think this doesn't happen from time to time at every large school then you are delusional.

Unfortunately, this is where it starts to go downhill, both from a cogency standpoint, and presentation of any factual evidence.

Let's look at the Brown, AD, and stephens situation. I watched Simms in the Spring game and can not possibly see how this guy can be annoited anything. He looked awful so why let a 5th year senior with some SEC experience go???

Yes, let's look at those situations. Please present us all the insider information you have, the individual conversations between Dooley and these players for which you were present, etc... Also, I'd love to get your talent evaluation credentials . If you recall, Crompton was a better practice QB, which may be what Simms is. Crompton turned out okay, right? Perhaps the head coach and Jim Chaney are better qualified to make this call than you are.

The Stephens and Brown thing bother me the most, we needed those guys and his statement that I am not going to recruit UT players is just plain dumb...

I've taken the liberty of breaking out my secret decoder ring and cutting and pasting in an attempt to make your post coherant.

Did you mean Douglas (rather than Stephens)? Either way, the idiocy of this statement speaks for itself. Again, any firsthand facts you have of these players' situations/personal problems would go a long way toward justifying your point. That aside, please explain how you would recruit current players who seem to have made it clear they don't want to be here, without appearing to the team, coaching staff, etc... that you're begging these guys to stay. Do you have any idea what was said by Dooley or these kids? For all we know there were demands of playing time, or other concessions, or they were being disrespectful to him in front of the team, etc... This is just an utterly stupid comment to make without substantiating it.

My concern is about recruiting and what seems to be a mindset that we can build a foundation with less than top athletes.

He pulled in Rogers (#2 WR in the country) within two weeks of accepting the job/national signing day, without his staff fully in place. Not to mention Hunter and Stone, who were both considered elite recruits. Are serious?

If you can't recruit studs but only 2 or 3 star players and want to build the foundation on character it just will not work in the SEC.

Really, do you mean to tell me that because he is making statements to the media that he feels character is of the utmost importance that you've translated that, "Despite my recruiting/signing several elite players (who had absolutely no prior interest in UT whatsoever, I might add) in the first two weeks of my tenure here, for the rest of my time at UT we are going to focus solely on 2 and 3 star players who love Jesus and do lots of volunteer work."

Do you think that he was recruiting only for character under Saban and that's how LSU won the title? Do you think Saban would've taken him to Miami if that were the case? If so, that gets a double :crazy: Ever consider that maybe this is for the benefit of all the moms, dads, and grandmas who watched the Kiffin, Orgeron, and Nukeese show here last year, and thought "No way in hell my kid's going to that school."

other than the title why doesn't he recruit them because they might question who he is, well they are not the only one's saying who is this guy, why did he say the QB job was wide open and then annoint Simms??

Holy crap, this is so stupid it's not even worth the time.

He was hailed as a master of organization yet I know for a fact through the AD department that we are still desperately behind the learning curve organizationally and that is a scary thought.

Is that the Aaron Douglas department? Oh, cool... facts! Too bad I don't see any here.

Everyone thinks we are deep at TB, let me say this about that. Poole is a good player, but can he carry the load through a grueling schedule? Williams is a shell of himself, and Oku has never shown he can hit the hole with any consistency so if Poole goes down we sure as hell needed BB. Of course not to mention he was the top running back in the country two years ago.

Whoa - a logical and compelling point. Where did that come from? If you want to make the jump from here to, "and it's all Dooley's fault for not doing everything he can to keep him here," be my guest. Of course, until you present any evidence that you know he didn't try to keep him here, it's moot.

That is a lot of evidence to me that he is at best a marginal hire.

You're not an attorney, are you?

For the record, this could go for anything posted by SGM, hatvol, volwarrior33 and the rest of the Kiffin sycophants. An attention whore is an attention whore, whether it's on the national stage, or on an internet message board.

yeah, Im just gonna scroll on down here and post some nonsense.

And this is the point that all of those I mention in the post above this conveniently (and inanely) overlook. By a wide margin, those "in favor of Dooley" are simply in favor of allowing something to happen prior to passing judgment. From them we get the vapid "Dooley sucks" posts in varying degrees, ad nauseam.
