Official Hawks Thread

Obviously I'm on the outside looking in on the Hawks as far as the feelings of fans, ownership, and the front office goes... but Mike Woodson can't have much time left in Atlanta, right?

One of the biggest under achievers in NBA history, when looking at the talent on this years squad.

People have been saying that for 3-4 years. I think he was probably on the way out back in 2008 but saved himself by taking the Celtics to 7 games in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I think Joe Johnson just sealed his fate with the Hawks.
Johnson on unhappy fans: "We could care less if they show up" | ajc.com

. . . not exactly the quote you want to go with after getting blown out again to go down 3-0 in a series that you've no showed for.

wow, I can can understand the frustration and the slump, but never say you don't care about the fans. That is unacceptable. The fans are there supporting you, paying for seats, paying their money so that you can play basketball. I know the ATL fans are not the best, but come on. Joe should have bit his lip on this one..

Well I think at this point the fastest way for the Hawks to win is to find someway to resign Joe.

I know he did a disappearing act in the post season, but the Hawks need him.

Job number two is to get Mike Woodson as far away from the team as possible.

Resigning Joe Johnson is a terrible move.

For some reason, this Hawks team is less than the sum of their parts. Woodson will get fired and the franchise needs to blow the team up and restart. Frankly put, the group as is is a bunch of losers.

I think a lot of things might come together if they had a bona fide wide body at Center so that Horford could play more at 4 where he belongs. It would also be nice if Mike Bibby could defend at all.

As for Joe Johnson . . . I recommend him signing with some 30 win team where he can score 27 a night in games that don't matter.

Horrible idea. Remember when they tried that in '98 when they let go of Smith and Augmon? They faded away not to be heard from again until 2008.

The Hawks have a good core, but I agree they need to let go of JJ. Sign and trade him is the best possible move.

I think we gotta sign and trade Joe. Try to get a backup SG and a legit center. I would love to find someone to take Marvin off our hands as well.

I don't think Marvin is really a problem. He has the ability to score, but he wasn't asked to do so on a team with JJ, Horford, Smith, and Bibby as well as Crawford off the bench.

Also I don't know if you guys have heard, but Woody met with the players yesterday or today and he informed Bibby that Teague will be the man next year. Bibby apparently took it well.

Good news. I'm a Teague fan (Wake forest college bball fan).

Marvin has no business being a starter for this team. I wouldn't mind him coming off the bench. He has ability, but he takes way too many plays off.

I excited to see what he can do. I kinda feel like Woody is trying to save his job by doing it though. He doesn't give the guy any meaningful minutes all year, but then decides he will be the man next year? He should've gotten way more playing time this year in preparation.

That's fair. Who would you have replaced him with though since Crawford is better coming off the bench IMO.

If he plays like he did in college then good things are ahead. I think Woodson might be trying to save his job too. I was glad to see Teague go in the first round last year but i was afraid he would get the Acie Law treatment which he pretty much did.

Nobody lol. He has to be the starter because there really is nobody else. Mo Evans gives decent minutes, but Marvin is better than Mo. If we could get a decent SF that played with passion, it would've made a huge difference in the Orlando series. A Matt Barnes type guy.

Woodson drives me nuts with that. Acie could have developed into a decent player, but Woody never really gave him a chance.

I love Teague's game, he just needed some minutes this year. The times he did get in, he tried to force it a little too much because he knew he wasn't going to be in there very long.

I think if they get a truce center then it moves Horford to the 4 and Smith to the 3 (who took his fair share of plays off in the playoffs too) then Marvin comes off the bench.

That would be a great bench having Craw and Marvin coming off the bench (assuming JJ stays).

The Hawks don't even really need a bigtime scoring center because they got Horf on the low post who can score. They just need a Brandon Haywood type player who can play defense and rebound.
