A few random thoughts after watching all of to 08-09 season and the 09-10 season.

To Bruce Pearl - Thank you for at least making the team good enough to where I at least care about Tennessee basketball again. I laughed as much as anyone when they showed Chism and Prince sitting in the recliners Saturday. However, when you are still "technically" in a conference race and play another top 25 team (and not a one man band), you better make damn sure your team is ready to play after they pull a stunt like that. Also, I don't give a flip about how many division titles you have won. That was fun to celebrate in 99 when we hadn't so much as sniffed a title of anything in 20 years, not now. You are making nearly $2 million a year and "negoitiated: your way into having some of the best basketball facilities in America. It's time to start setting big boy goals and achieving them. Division titles aren't much to brag about.

Steven Pearl - Please go to your father and say the following since he or an assistant can't muster up the courage to admit it - "Father, please do not play me meaningful minutes against an above average or better team. I will just embarass myself, you, and UT. If you need me to fill the time at the end of a half so a guy doesn't pick up a foul, I am cool with that, and I can even hold my own against the South Carolinas and Auburns of the world, but please no more. I'm tired of looking like a fool on the court agaisnt a legitimate team."

Scotty Hopson - Please take your shoulder-slouching, pity-party routene to the pros. I don't care if it's the NBA, Europe, China, or an African tribal league, I just know I am tired of seeing your drama here. Actually, I hope it is the NBA because I would throughly LOVE to see you pull a stunt where you give up a fast break like you did last night while pouting and then see a Kobe or Lebron chew your ass out. One shot doesn't change my opinion of you. I never thought I would see a biggest waste of God-given talent that Vincent Yarbrough at Tennessee, but you have blown him out of the water.

Wayne Chism - I never thought when you graduated Bolivar High School that you would have a better college career than Willie Kemp. Now that you've actually settled down you are a legitimate All-SEC and 3rd team All-American player.

Coach Cal - Please don't beat UT by 50 Saturday night.

Hopson doesn't have any business playing in a rec. league much less any pro league.

You could also add:

Renaldo Woolridge: At least you are consistent. Not only can you miss shots from 3pt range, but you miss everything else too. Mid-range, short jumpers, FT's and usually the man you are supposed to be guarding. We used to call that the "hey" defense. "Hey! Who's supposed to be guarding the guy making that layup?" Or simply wait until he is about to shoot the ball and yell "hey" also works fine as well.

For the life of me I don't understand why Pearl recruited some of the guys he did. Hopson is a bust, but he was a McDonald's AA so you don't pass on him, but in order for Pearl's system to succeed you need guys that can shoot the ball. It seems like Pearl and staff just went after great athletes and not necessarily good basketball players.

Agreed. Very athletic team that can't shoot the ball and score. Intensity would also help as defense is our only chance to win against quality teams.

Has Renaldo made any more threes after he made those couple in the Kansas game? Please stop shooting oustide man! Go inside and shoot layups!

What's worse, being a "crybaby" or being totally satisfied with beating the #1 team in early January?

What's worse is saying I love this team yesterday and hate them today and love them Saturday and hate them on Wednesday.

Sadly enough I meant to address Woolridge and forgot. Your summary was probably better than what I could have come up with for him anyway.

You have not heard me say I "love" this team at any point. Their play might have exceeded my expectations at times, or I have been proud that they actually showed up a game or two, but that is about it. This is actually the most frustrating basketball team I believe I have ever watched, pre and post Tyler Smith. I can't figure out which is more confusing, the fact that I can't figure out how they have won 18 games or that they should legitimately have 20 wins right now.

If you can refute anything I originally said other than post pictures, please go ahead.

Loving your team isn't blindly cheering everything they do and trumping up "accomplishments" that in reality don't amount to all that much.

Doesn't the fact that they've won 18 and only lost 5 yet you're spending your time on here complaining about them tell you anything?

Or that they lost Negedu, Smith,....Tatum, Goins, Williams (for a time) and are still 18-5 tell you anything?

Or that on 01/01/10 every single post on here said that the sky was falling and the season was over, yet have gone 8-3 since that day?

Or that their halfcourt defense (except for last night) has been oustanding this year?

I could go on....

This team has the same problems that we had then that are still not being addressed.

When those are addressed you will see some of the griping stop immediately.

So what did you refute?

You obviously dont' get it.

This team has the potential to be really, really good. They have the potential with a couple of break of maybe, just maybe, breaking that Sweet 16 barrier.

Instead, here is what I have watched.

Hopson making one shot and the entire fan base cristening him the second coming of Michael Jordan when that is basically all he has done this year. I guarantee I can count more on the court pity parties he's thrown himself than cluth plays he has made.

Woolridge....I won't even go there.

A team battle back to make it a 11 point game when down by 20 by taking it to the hoop fire up an ill-advised 3 less than 10 seconds into the shot clock.

A team continually shooting the three when I'm not sure we're shooting 30% for the year.

I could also go on.

Point is like I said, I don't know what is more confusing (and frustrating) that I can't see how they have won 18 games or that they could have 20 wins right now. Please forgive me that I don't enjoy 20 point road losses, much less 3 of them. Also please excuse me that I see a team that could be a lot better than it is but continually watch the same mistakes over and over and over and over and have for two years.

No we wouldn't. Too many on here gripe for the sake of griping. You know it, I know it. You won't admit that here but that's o.k.

I understand the points that the Pearl haters are making. However, can none of you address the legitimate point that this was the teams 3rd game in 6 games? I know it's easy for you to sit there on your computer and type about how this team isn't performing to your lofty expectations, but do you ever consider them just being tired?

What about the officiating? When was the last time you saw a am shoot 35 free throws when there is still 8 minutes left in the game?

Maybe not the only reason, but it had something to do with it. So did the fact that this was the teams 3rd game in 6 days.

It had nothing to do with it. If the game was close, that could be an argument. Not for a 19-point beatdown though.

The team was simply not ready to play. There is no excuse for poor effort. Pretending the officiating was the reason we lost makes us look like pansies.
