I was listening to Brent Dougherty of 1045 the Zone this afternoon and he was talking about candidates if current MTSU coach Rick Stockstill takes the East Carolina job. Out of nowhere, Phil Fulmer's name popped up. Got to wonder if he was considered for the South Florida and East Carolina openings.

I think Fulmer's name will always pop up when a job becomes open till he get's another job...

I'm in favor of anything that gets him out of Knoxville. His behavior last week was ridiculous.

I seen where Fulmer said he wanted to go somewhere where they were commited to winning. Wasnt his last job like that? Glad Cut didnt get the job here. Would have been the same as Fulmer era. Think Dooley will do a great job when he gets players

At his request. I used to like fulmer (as a person) until I realized that he withdrew his name from consideration as a coach. That was petty. He was trying to kick us when we were down. I hope the best job offered to him is MTSU.

Did you honestly want him back? I am glad he withdrew his name... I am sure he is a good guy but it would look kinda bad if we did rehire him after one year out of the job.

The key here is....he withdrew his name from a job that he was NEVER being considered for.

I have never understood that comment. How many programs actually say "lets hire a new coach and make every possible effort to be a losing program".

First I would like to say please don't show up at my house with torches and pitchforks but I think CPF would be a good hire just about anywhere... I think is problem the last year he was at UT I think he was getting burnt out... We must remember he was a really good coach for a really long time. I think CPF biggest fault was winning a NC cause he set the Bar too high to keep on repeating his success.. Just my 2 cents...
OK let the beating begin

I saw him doing it just to end any potential conversation about the possibility of him taking the job again.

It was no slight to the program.

The guy gave a hell of a lot to UT prior to becoming head coach. I assure you that even though he was fired, he still loves the program.

No, of course I didn't want him back. I hated that he withdrew his name as though anybody would actually consider it. That's arrogant at best. I haven't liked him as a coach since 2002, but I always thought he was a decent person. Not anymore...not with his putting his own name in the news at our expense.

He was burnt out long before last year. Not winning the SEC for the last ten years and getting crushed by our biggest rivals burnt out the fans.

That obviously was not the case. He didn't want to be head coach here again. He's not a dumb guy. People started throwing it around, so he nipped it in the bud.

I never doubt his love for the program and I agree that he gave a lot.
I disagree about him making the statement to "end conversation".

let it go man. fulmer withdrew his name because people were asking him if he was a candidate/wanted the job. it was no slight to the program. in fact, he subsequently clarified that he (and i am paraphrasing) was just as PO'd as any UT fan and he still loved this university. flame me all you want, but fulmer was a great coach and an even better person. he has given a ton to our school and i will never begrudge him a thing. people need to move on and support the new coach in stead of retreading on topics about fulmer and the USCcoach.

Exactly.

It's not like he showed up at WATE and demanded they give him an interview.

Someone asked him a question, I'm sure, and he answered. To say "no comment" would lead to too much further speculation.
