My Official Opinion Of Derek Dooley

First of all, he is an attorney which means he most likely understands NCAA rules and regulations. He worked and learned for years under Nick Saban....who in my opinion is the best in the business right now. He has NFL experience. He was the recruiting coordinator at LSU where he landed two #1 ranked classes. He is young, seems to be energetic and tenacious...and can obviously recruit big time players. Further, he seems to really want this job and wants to be in Knoxville. He comes across as a man that will embrace UT and will represent us is a classy and tasteful fashion. I think we potentially have a very good young coach on our hands. Let's get behind him, support him, and have faith. I have a very good feeling about this guy...........
Same here. The guy's solid and although his dad is longtime legend Vince Dooley, Derek wasn't given the silver spoon.

I've got a feeling that Hammy will be run out of town with him. I guess we will see in a couple of years.

It is totally inexcusable that he paid this guy the money reported. If you're going for a long shot, at least save the money. He spent a lot more on CDD than Texas Tech spent on Tubby. That reality is hard to ignore.

Hat, I do not see Saban that way and I completely understand why he left Miami when he did. Right now this program needs a champion and nobody whose name I recognize was willing to strap it up and drag our bacon out of the fire other than Dooley. He may not be the guy we wanted but he's the guy we got. I'm all in.

How dare you insinuate that Hat should exhibit some semblance of loyalty? What are you a marble mouthed hick, or something?

He wants to pout and stomp him widdle feet over this hire - because what he wants and thinks is more important than what you want and think. Because he's smarter. And wealthier. And more connected.

Anyway, Hat doesn't have to support the guy if he doesn't want to. Besides, how do you expect him to continue receiving the attention he so desperately craves if not in expressing his many oppositions to this hire?

He has definitely put whatever eggs he has left into CDD's basket. As a UT alumni and season ticket holder, I hope he wins championships, but I am very skeptical.

Dooley's gonna do well for us.

Dangit Hat, you are one of the people with whom I felt a mutuality of some sort based on the long lived lashing we both took for speaking against Coach Fulmer's continued tenure but right now I think that we have to take DD at his word and believe that this man has the will and desire to make our team what it was. I believe he can do it and I think he can do it the right way.

I do not think Hat posts here for the attention. I think that HV cares as much as anyone about the UTK football program and everything that he posts here comes from the bottom of his heart. If the Vols had other suitors lined up, I'd probably be right in lockstep with his opinions but I think that this is the time for pulling together and declaring unity of purpose. One heartbeat for the Volnation if you will. I think that Hatvol would say the same thing if he was at the same point as me in terms of perspective on the program. He obviously thinks that there is something more to be done on this front.

That's where we see the world differently. Just because some marbled mouthed SEC legacy puts on an orange tie doesn't mean I have to do anything. I love the hypocrisy around here. Everyone constantly talks about what scum Saban is and how dirty a recruiter he is. Yet, when we hire one of his errand boys, they act as if we've hired a combination of Joe Paterno and Billy Graham. It's laughable. The only positive is that the patience of this fanbase is in much shorter supply these days. That'll keep this from being a long running joke.

Thing is, you are so caught up with not being a hypocrite that if 5 years from now we are winning SEC titles (don't mistake this for a prediction), you will find a way to denigrate this guy. You post some good stuff for this site, and I enjoy reading it. However, the guy isn't a great hire because he is unproven, but it would be unreasonable for you to say that the jury is still out on Dooley.

Unity is overrated.

No, I'll say I was wrong and congratulate the guy.

God Bless if I wouldn't have agreed with that statement 99x out of 100 the past couple of years but right now I just want to hope that the people who are making the decisons that I cannot make have some clue as to what they are doing. I'm gonna go out on a limb and trust a fellow counselor who is steeped in the history of the SEC that he cares about the UT Volunteers.

Can anyone determine which is the real VN Guru? (as opposed to the celebrity wannabe?)

I care deeply about UT. I couldn't care less about the Joel Osteen impersonator we just hired.

Why does it matter what he says in a press conference. Have you legitimately ever seen him coach a game? Don't throw out the record either. You know as well as anyone that you aren't winning 10 games at Louisiana Tech.

Hat, you are the voice of reason here. That is beyond dispute. I respect your opinions. I'm also ready to believe that UTK just hired the right guy. I now that you're going to be there for this program no matter what and that's really all that matters.

Actually, I have seen them a few times. Tech was in as many of those midweek ESPN or ESPN2 WAC games as anyone, except maybe Boise, the last few years. Their product was indistinguishable from any of the other trash in that league.

It's just hard for me to imagine that you are already all over this guy before he even assembles a coaching staff. Why attack him now? You may be right, but what does it accomplish? I honestly don't know that much about his coaching style. I know he comes well recommended by his peers and the players he coached. I just don't know why you would call him garbage before he puts a product on the field at UT.

Initially, with rumors of future coach ________ or _________, I realized that noone would probably make me happy. After the emotions settled down, I realize that with Coach Dooley or whomever it was, I will have to support them to the fullest, something I was hesitant to do with Lame Kiffin. He gave you that uneasy feeling you get before your girlfriend leaves you for someone else. I feel better, despite my distrust of lawyers, that he will legitimately make a great showing (Hopeful for more energy) for the Vols so I will support him the best I can...I haven't done it recently, so what do I have to lose...Only ....................
