Dooley acknowledged that if he had stayed with Saban (after being the longest serving Saban assistant ever) and gone to Alabama he would have been more attractive, but he would not have been as qualified.

Dooley is southern, he gets our traditions, he reached out to Majors and Fulmer and said how much he admires Neyland in one presser.

He said his family is excited to live in Knoxville! What a welcome change.

He said he will not be a trash talker...

I am proud of our new head coach and I am proud of our AD.

I don't know if I would agree that Hammy is a genius, but I certainly don't want him fired. I know who is waiting in the wings. Hamilton had a tough job trying to hire a coach under the current conditions, it was a bad situation. I hope he hit a home run here.

I want to save all my opinions until at least next season, I WILL NOT be fooled again.

That's a pretty tall order. What would you consider a save?

I'm just hoping he can make the kids feel good enough about him and his plan to give it a shot. That's about all you can ask them to do at this point.

Hamilton is swinging hard though.

I would rather him swing for the fences and miss than settle for the lazy, safe Cutcliffe hire. Hamilton knows his job is on the line and he still went for the high risk/high reward move again after whiffing on the last one. Gotta admire that.

This guy is a longshot, no dobut. But I would rather try three or four high upside guys in a row than just settle in with somebody safe with a 9 or 10 win season.

Have you ever been to Ruston, LA? Moving from there to Knoxville is like moving from the outhouse to the penthouse.

Don't judge him too harsh too quick. Remember all the exits after Kiffin came in. There will be some more with CDD, but this guy gets the UT tradition and has some ethics and morals.

Give him a quality staff like LK had and he is a better coach.

Come to play at UT not for DD or LK or anybody else. Dust off yer britches and lets get to work.

I'm not gonna give Hambone any credit as of yet...but I am impressed that he hired a southern gentleman and a very classy guy.

At the very least it will be nice to have some class back at the HC position.

He doesn't seem to be the type to raise the ire of the officials and other HC's, either.

Oh, I definitely agree. A 4-8 record doesn't often raise the ire of the officials or the other head coaches. On the contrary, it makes you their best friend.

I agree with this, except the last part, I'm not so sure Cutcliffe could have gotten us to 9 or 10 wins, in fact I highly doubt it.

2.4 million for a WAC coach who just went 4-8. He's a genius alright.

exactly. Just because he talks southern and seems like a genuine guy doesn't cover up the fact he is a 17-20 coach in an easy conference and just went 4-8.
