I am SOOOOO sick of the constant gloom & doom talk. If UT was so irrelevant, our search for a new coach wouldn't be such national news. The timing of everything is causing some potential coaches that may have ben more interested to hold off; but no matter who we hire, we will continue to be one of the most watched programs due to the interest this has generated. A big win or two next season will go a long way towards righting the ship, and except for the O-line, we have the players in place to get that done.
CDC is enough to get us on the right track and hold the program steady until Peyton takes over in 3-4 yrs. JMO
To me the difference is with Cut it's the same old offence. With Kippy maybe Chaney is OC and we get something different then add recruiters and a good DC.
And he has the personality of a brick. Couldn't hire a more boring, uninspiring coaching prospect...unless they tried to bring Fulmer back. There is a reason no one is beating down Fulmer's door...and neither are the USC's of the world calling Cutcliffe about an opening....Just us. Only our idiots want them.
I sense Cutcliffe will be UT's Mike Shula and that Hamilton and the coaches that left and the ones that are turning us down, think that the NCAA is going to come down on us hard. Cutcliffe will not be expected to win, but just run a clean program the next 3-4 years. Then if we have any money availabe
le we will go after the "splash" hire.
i love the manning as the default tn coach idea. he played here it is assumed that he would desire to be the savior of the program and ride in on an orange horse to resurrect tn football. certainly he is a football genius and a student of the game, however it is conceivable that he could be playing in 3-4 years. are we to assume that tn would just grant him the coaching position without any coaching experience - that has never happened in the modern era at a top program! i can see it now....manning stadium on manning way next to scenic manning river at the foot of the manning mountains in manningville.
Its a shame that Tennessee "fans" have become this way. Growing up, the fans were so rabid, the stadium was full no matter what. The fans then prided themselves on being the best fans in the nation.
