Really Bruce?

Really?

Vols facing familiar struggles with effort, again

No title, sorry but the main quote is: "I have not been able to get them to train."
Earlier this year, Kansas State sleepwalked through a win against a nondescript opponent. After the game, Frank Martin said something to the effect of "We've got some guys who are going to give us what we need out of them or I'm going to get them out of here." Bruce would be wise to adopt that attitude before this thing ends up in the gutter.

didn't bruce say last year he couldn't get them to press?

yeah he said that. this is just ridiculous. what happened to "head puking in a bucket." that was probably just for the espn cameras. i can't believe how absurd his attitude is. he doesn't want to coach effort... and then he can't get them to train. lol. i had coaches in high school and college that would not think twice about putting the balls away and spending the rest of practice running... or starting 5 different guys if thats what it took.

IMHO, Bruce needs to decide if he wants to be their coach or their friend. If it's the first, he needs to crack down now. If it's the latter, he needs to start looking for his next coaching gig now. I like the guy, but a coach takes charge of his team and doesn't make comments about how he "can't get them to train." WTH are you coaching if you can't take control of the team? I'm sorry, it doesn't matter how much better we are now than under Buzz, that comment just doesn't cut it. Grow a set Bruce and show these boys who the boss is.

I just don't understand how you can't get your recruits to play hard for you.

I mean it is pathetic, and Bruce better figure something out, because this team is about to lose control.

Change the combo to the locker room, do not let them have practice gear, run them, ask Coach O to be a guest coach for a day, run them again, make them practice in the worst gym on campus, start playing walk-ons....there are plenty of options that he could choose (the coach O was a joke) to try and get their attention.

It's called putting the basketballs away and having the players run sprints, stadium steps, suicides, etc. Coach Pearl it's not too difficult to figure out. No hustle means no playing time. For pete sake, who is the darn coach anyway? Pearl or the players?

Put them on the bench. If that doesn't make them embarrassed and mad enough to play hard. Let them know their services are no longer needed. Doesn't matter how far you need to go down the bench.

I can't remember where I heard this, but didn't Coach Summit ban her players from the locker room until they were "worthy" to go in it again? That will get your head on straight and get you to take things seriously. Perhaps Pearl needs to adopt a silimar strategy... Again, I cannot remember where I heard or read this.
