Tennessee under NCAA investigation over use of recruiting hostesses

If Lane Kiffin paid for that hotel room, he deserves to get in trouble. However, the fact that the NYT carried the story makes me think that they know more is coming down the pike. Every news organization wants to break a story, and they might have put that little piece out in anticipation of something bigger. It's not over yet...

You have no evidence any event ever took place other than the word of an anonymous caller on a radio show.

Again, the story could be about a HS student who was jilted by a college girl who refused to behave like the ones he met at some other schools, let's say... USCjr.

We don't know the facts. Quit pretending otherwise.

If it were another program, would you say this kind of activity should be ignored? If the NCAA is told about something like this, it's their responsibility to investigate, just like they would any other school.

Oh really, why then does Georgia have 20 secondary violations to Tennessee having only 6 yet Tennessee is in the NYT and Deadspin? When is the last time it was a big news story about Georgia's recruiting violations yet they have over 3 times as many violations as Tennessee but the Vols have the image of breaking all the rules.

Looks like it does get ignored at other places, tell me how is that fair, now do you know why people are pissed around here?

Finally, someone that gets it. It's not a coach issue, it's an athletic department failure.

If the article about recent NCAA changes to Hostess rules are true, then the Hostess/Host program at UT should be run out of the Admissions office and not the athletic department?

A google search of Lacy Pearl Epps comes up with 2 references. One at this url and one at a USCjr website that no longer works. This whole thing is a tempest in a teapot and is about keeping UT from winning at recruiting as well as winning on the field. To be this big a target and coming off a 7-5 season, we must be doing SOMETHING right if everybody is this scared of us and having to go to the NYTimes to get the message out there. Just another reason to never read or purchase a NYTimes again.

That is because you spelled her name wrong. Do it again and a whole lot more comes up my friend.

A believe a few of the ladies in question belong to this group....pictured in the UT media guide.

for a hostess... or school representative... to travel to and hold up signs and yell at them to come to UT... i would think the NCAA could view that as a clear violation of some kind... maybe secondary.... but if its standard practice... it's real bad.
it's real Bad............ Man!

615er the answer is rather obvious. Richt is a coach other programs in the SEC don't mind being around, he's beatable year in and year out whether they do it or not, at least he's beatable. Meyer the same thing, not a super coach inasmuch as he's had super talent in recent days. However, CLK and team are on their way to something special, they have not kissed Pope Slive's ring or nether regions, hence the full open assault on UT football by any means necessary, including bald faced rumors printed in the NYTimes as news.

There are very many things wrong with this post.

I'm not saying that the story is true, but just that if it is, we would definitely be in the wrong. Regardless, I don't believe he's THAT dumb.

But, as I said, the NYT doesn't make a habit of carrying stories that go nowhere. That's what worries me, regardless of what rumors are being floated around.

That sounds about right. CMR has turned out to be the second coming of CRG. Who knew UGA could find another one like him? I wept the day they let CRG go.

Yes they do.

What? They do it all the time....

I disagree. They have a well documented history of running with stories regardless of fact. See: Blair, Jayson, or Miller, Judith for two of the more famous examples.

basically calling these girls hookers? Nice

Just the 3 to 4 not pictured.

Pretty odd to me, that there is not one overweight girl there. With the vast majority of them being more attractive than the average girl on campus.

I'm sure you're one of the guys who believes Hooters is all about the owls.

The NYT reporter really seems to think the NCAA has something on UT's hostesses that would be a major infraction... not just sign holding and recruiting off campus.
