Are you in favor of the job Coach Pearl is doing with the Vols?

Pearl is over paid, but I can remember in buzz petersons last year when I was so excited to be 14-9, I don't like making early exits in the tournament but hell were making it to the tournament just wait when Bruce gets this team stacked Voldad will be no where to be found....

1. I am not going to call anyone out, and in fact I left names out of this thread entirely, but several people on here were angry at Pearl for the divorce. Further one guy even talked about how bad Pearl was because of the time Pearl spent in bars! He listed bars and restaraunts by name. It was creepy.

2. Yes. In another thread I discussed the pay issue. I also just linked the NYT article from yesterday that talked about Memphis doing a very real offer to Pearl of that job. Mike Hamilton was correct to realize he has to pay a premium to keep a guy in place who is winning consistently and raising the profile of a top 25 program that wants to be a top 10 program. We also can afford to because he gets butts in seats, and we have the 4th highest attendance in CBB.

3. To answer the several who asked, anything less than an Elite 8 this year would be a disappointment, and if he cannot get Chism and Tyler Smith into the NBA it will be an indictment of his player development given that both have the talent and ability. Excuses will be given that Wayne has asthma and Tyler is a classic tweener, but when Tyler was at Iowa no one was saying he would have difficulty making an NBA roster. Both guys should be able to find spots in the league if they play to their potential this year.

Makes sense......+1

Oh and to whoever said that Pearl's critics played at a high level, I am calling BS unless you mean guys who played at Illinois.

Coaching a crappy AAU team is not "coaching at a high level" and neither is a national homeschooling travel team trophy for 13 year olds. If someone who is on here who is a big time Pearl critic wants to post their legit resume I will say I am wrong, but from what I can tell it is a bunch of legends in their own mind.

Ah....the Fulmeresque "WHO YA GONNA GIT" line of reasoning.

We're paying him Final Four money...you seriously don't think that wouldn't attract some good coaches?

I understand that you don't think CBP is a top levle coach worthy of top level pay. Why is that? Is it solely based on performance on the court? What you have to remember is that like it or not this is a business and CBP can sell. What was basketball sales/exposure pre BP and then after? If I ran a business that made $10 today then hired someone and tomorrow he brought in $30 and had everyone in the country talking about it well then I have to keep him. I don't care If people were telling me that paying him was not worth it. All I would be able to see was the bottom line and bottom line is CBP brings in the dollars and exposure. One other point I'd like to throw out there. If CBP never won another game but kept the money rolling in then is would still be wise to give him a raise. This is a BUSINESS here to make money. While most times WINS=more money with CBP there is an excitement about UT basketball that I have not seen in my lifetime. Can you put a price tag on that?

the final 16 teams is NOT an early exit... do you know anything about college basketball? i guarantee we make it at least that far this year.

How about guaranteeing we will make it further. After all, don't we have better talent this year?

I like both of these guys but neither one of them is an NBA player. It's obvious watching them that they just don't have it.

Good players but only the best go pro. I don't believe either one gets drafted.

You act like it's easy to make the Sweet 16, that is an accomplishment.

There are aspects of his style that I don't like but the overall results have been very good.

Not sure why you are obsessed with him painting his chest, it is no different than Lane " Singing Rocky Top all night long ". It was great publicity IMO.

All the Pearl haters want to talk money, he didn't set his pay, be mad at the A.D.

You want to be in The Final Four?

That would be great but your expectations are unrealistic, only a handful of programs have those expectations. 5 or so out of over 300!

Look at the teams that make Final Four runs, they are way more talented than we are, usually have at least one NBA player, we have maybe 1 in Hopson and he still has a long way to go.

We have only 1 NBA player on our roster? That's news to me.

if true, whose fault is that?

And he has not earned it.

But you keep changing the parameters. Which makes me think that even if he went to the Final Four, you would ask, "What does the Final Four trophy look like?" or still say he hasn't won the big one. Voldad, all I'm looking at is where has our program been in the past. Besides Jerry Green, we have never been consistant in basketball. CBP is bringing consistancy to us and I'll be happy to revisit this if we never get out of the round of 32.

I do not know how far back you want me to go...Houston? O'Neill? Green? Peterson?

Bruce Pearl has finally brought in through Hopson and Tobias Harris two players who are of the caliber of the rosters that regularly make it to the Final Four.

He is elevating this program. Unless you wanted him to cheat and have a booster who gave out bags of cash and shoe contracts he could not get those recruits. I hear boosters like that exist though, but Pearl does not have Worldwide We$ on his side...

I'm not the one complaining about the lack of talent. I understand that it takes time to get and develop talent, especially considering the state of the program Pearl took over. I just think (assuming reliable PG play) we have the talent to make a Final Four run given the experience on this team. I just don't want to hear the excuse "we don't have talent to make a run". Over the past four years, I would agree. This year, I don't.

If my choice was Buzz or Pearl then I choose Pearl. I just did not realize my choices were so limited.

Then I guess u just recently jumped on the UT Bball bandwagon (or anti in u'r case) recently........ :eek:lol:

UT Bball is like one of the worst Bball programs in the country in the last 30 years or more....... HOrrible coaches like:

1. Wade Houston (couldn't even win or recruit with an NBA all-star)
2. Kevin O'neil (although he could recruit)
3. Don Devoe (average at best, terrible recruiter overall)
4. Buzz-ball Peterson (the worst EVER!)
5. And other Suckers

Pearl is the first good coach we've had since Ray Mears, and that's going back many of moons......sorry we couldn't get Roy williams to satisfy you, though :eek:lol:

Fortunately for 99% of the Volunteer faithful, you're not the AD, so you don't really have a choice at all. Bruce Pearl is our coach, and we are better than we ever have been with him.

There actually is a final four trophy. It is called a regional championship.

I would be thrilled.

Wow. Our choices are limited. So who coaches the other 100+ schools; student managers?
