I find it funny that the people who criticize Pearl seem to be the ones who follow the sport extensively (played at a high level, travel in basketball circles, etc.) while the people who love seem to have started following basketball about the time of the chest painting.

good.......before Pearl, you could count on your hand how many times in recent memory that we ever even GOT to the NCAA tourney.......Even when Allan Houston was at UT, I'm not sure if we ever made the tournament, and he was there 4 years!!

So, in Pearl we Trust........ In VolDAD we laugh :eek:lol:

There are lots of fans like me who love pearl but who are concerned that we cannot press against skilled backcourts. A case in point is todays game.

I do not think tennessee can do better than pearl and I am very happy to have him. If he can get to an elite 8 this year and develop tyler smith and wayne chism to put both in the nba, no one will be left to hate him except complete nutjobs

2. Do you realize how much he is getting paid?

That question has been asked and answered many times by people more knowledgeable than me. You just don't like believing that anyone could be better that Saint Pearl. After all, he paints his chest.

No laugh needed....... I'm just a positive, hopeful, fan, who believes that Coach Pearl has done a tremendous job of lifting a chronic deadbeat program out of the drunken gutter, and into the Light of Day, and a National stage and ranking as well.......

I think Pearl is a very good bball coach, but maybe not as good as a few elite coaches, that's probably true......but what he has done in a short period of time is nothing short of miraculous, IMO

1. I am not going to call anyone out, and in fact I left names out of this thread entirely, but several people on here were angry at Pearl for the divorce. Further one guy even talked about how bad Pearl was because of the time Pearl spent in bars! He listed bars and restaraunts by name. It was creepy.

2. Yes. In another thread I discussed the pay issue. I also just linked the NYT article from yesterday that talked about Memphis doing a very real offer to Pearl of that job. Mike Hamilton was correct to realize he has to pay a premium to keep a guy in place who is winning consistently and raising the profile of a top 25 program that wants to be a top 10 program. We also can afford to because he gets butts in seats, and we have the 4th highest attendance in CBB.

3. To answer the several who asked, anything less than an Elite 8 this year would be a disappointment, and if he cannot get Chism and Tyler Smith into the NBA it will be an indictment of his player development given that both have the talent and ability. Excuses will be given that Wayne has asthma and Tyler is a classic tweener, but when Tyler was at Iowa no one was saying he would have difficulty making an NBA roster. Both guys should be able to find spots in the league if they play to their potential this year.
