Joked with several #Vols beat guys Saturday that the SEC didn't have HDTV in the replay booth. Just learned that's true. Wow. WTH(eck)?

Slive and Rogers Redding (AKA Buford T. Justice) might fine me $30,000 for this but they don't have HDTV's to the replay booths (or the ESPN package :)) Can't wait to hear the lame excuse for this one!!!

no HDTV is not an excuse.

I don't see upgrading the Replay to HD as a priority for Slive. So long as reasonable doubt can be created because of fuzzy or indistinct image, the officials have something to use as a cover. It's a shame that the refs don't have access to the same quality video as everyone else gets.

True... But they are ON THE FIELD and are trained to know what a penalty is. They have a better look at the play than we do.. Maybe not on the replay, but some of the calls they are blowing aren't even going to a replay.

I don't understand how/why the replay booth doesn't have HD replays or access to the same camera angles as the viewer. It's so dumb on so many levels. Why even have replay if they don't have the technology, which is readily available and affordable, to get the calls right? If it's true, the SEC is exponentially more retarded than I previously thought.

Not having the ESPN package (which I pay $6 a month for on Comcast) is the real culprit. They've been watching the wrong games!

That's ridiculous if true. All the money tied up in this conference and these games and they don't have HDTV in the replay booth?

The replay officials would be better served to have a screen full of braille rather than HD.

I think it is actually an NCAA thing. There has to be consistency across the board. Not all games are shot in HD, so not every game has access to HD. Therefore, the ones that do, don't get to use it for replay.

If you recall back to when replay was first introduced, the arguments against it were that all games weren't broadcast, so there were not cameras for all D1 games to have replay. Well, they solved that by using cameras even for games that weren't going to be aired. HD cameras cost quite a bit more than regular cameras, so it takes time to replace all that (fairly) new equipment to HD. I don't think we will see HD replay anytime soon.

Rome is pounding Slime and the SEC for not having HD. He just told them to make a run to Best Buy and throw down some cash for some updated moniters.

I don't have HD either and that was still clearly an INT.

Ummm.... I don't have HD at home and still could correct the bad calls and spot the non-calls. They are without excuse.

I just fail to understand how a replay official with a tv and four refs can still blow calls. It feels like more are being wrong than before we had replay. They also can't seem to grasp the concept of undisputable evidence being required to overturn something. they use replay like a crutch and are getting lazy with their on the field calls.

how slime can justify not having HDTV in the replay booth is beyond me. why does the SEC not have the money for this?? we only signed a 3 trillion dollar tv deal...

My grandmother's RCA black and white television would have been enough to rule that a catch.

This piss poor excuse must be the official SEC line because Rocky Goode was on Jimmy Hyams show on Monday screaming about not having HDTVs in the booth.

is it a matter of HDTV or just that Slive has his henchmen reviewing the play? you would think with replay on every play of the game, that they could get a few of them right
