The recent black uniform phenomenon (merged)

How many like the Black Jersey's

I can't believe the level of controversy the Black Unis made. I wear orange so much that people don't know my name but they say oh, the guy in the orange, at my business. I thought the black was cool and if it was a recruiting tool, then that makes it even better. Tradition got us in the hole we are crawling out of, if you think about it.

I have a black T-shirt with Volunteers across the chest that I love. Nobody tackled better or ran faster when they wore orange so all of you naysayer old-timers need to drop it. By the way, I am 57!

At some point it has to dawn on you that no matter how hideous white helmet on black jersey on orange pants looks, they didn't do it for you. It's about 16-22 year old athletes; not 30+ year old meatballs like me.

I want one. I didn't see them on the strip, but i saw some fans with them on going into the game and at the Vol Walk.

Anyone know who is selling them?

It's an expected reaction. The old guard is used to having a dull hick running the program in a manner that meshed with their hillbilly sensibilities. They can't handle change.

they were AWESOME! plus it got the crowd into it...

they would have been a lot better with either...orange helmet black power T//or white pants.

funny how all those votes are for 'LIKE' when majority of the messages in some threads didn't like the idea one bit prior to the game last night.

To ZZ13....I can't help but to chime in here....you suggest that you embrace change, and as such, that implies searching for new opportunities. The deal with the shirts was meant for the players and potential recruits, and secondarily for the fans (us).

There was so much positive feedback and enthusiasm surrounding the black jerseys for a Halloween night game and then to read your particular feedback on this topic is somewhat of a downer.

Change is a key element within the football program....I would hope that you are able to temper your displeasure over the black jerseys, and embrace this program not only as a doaner, but as a fan. This football program will be enjoyable to watch for many years to come.

GOOOO Vols!!!
Good points. I can see the recruiting aspect now which I didn't think of at first.

Appreciate the constructive, mature feedback.

and I liked it affter having reservations about the black, and you are a fool if you think Kiffin is going anywhere, much less over some "over 30 " crowd getting pissed off over a jersey...I wasnt for it till I saw it, give it to them..once in a while..

No..sorry you are just a fool no matter what
Jimmy Hyams is not the only Vol fan offended by the black jerseys. Almost all of the fans over the age of 30 or offended. Alot will not tolerate Kiffin doing what he pleases. Slive has just about had his fill. Obviously Hamilton has no control and is a liar. Some high powered donors will make the difference.

Hyams says that He is upset that Heather Harrington got the scoop on the black Jersey's and that he went through the proper channels and was misled.. He said he sent e-mails and text messages to complain....Don't that just break your heart.....LMAO

Heather is better looking than Hyams.....why should he be surprised

I loved the black! I realize it's not a school color, but black goes well with orange, IMO--and it's a nice change of pace jersey. Are there any schools that have orange and black as their official colors? There must be...

I had to stop reading at this post, so forgive me if I am duplicating a similar response.

Tricky Jim, please refrain from misclassifying the true fans of our University. First off, if you are offended by the color of a uniform, you should stop leaving your house...there's a lot of scary stuff out there! Secondly, most of us are THRILLED at the turnaround of our program that has occurred over the past few months. No longer are we complacent, underperforming, and outcoached. Kudos to the coaching staff for reviving a floundering and nearly-embarrassing squad. Finally, it kills me that you overestimate the impact of a few geezers who give that much attention to our outfit. The same "fans" sit on their cushions and listen to headphones the whole game, wearing a perpetual scowl. As the energy (and wins) continue to build, there will plenty of people willing to step and fill the void left by a few grumpy old men.

47 and thought the black jerseys were fun and cool in an ugly kind of way. Yep this is about the players and recruits not the fatties that inherited their tix from their grandparents and yell at you to sit down.

It was something different for Halloween so I think it was ok....especially since Lou Holtz thought it was silly, I liked the idea. Our coaches and team are generating excitement and conversation so what's NOT to like! I think we are going to have a lot of fun with this staff and the players who come to TN will enjoy their stay. Great WIN....GO VOLS!!! I'm proud of all of you!
