What is it with these old sticklers? lol. We're all supposed to be on the same side. Our colors are Orange and White and nobody is trying to change them. But there is nothing wrong with doing something cool like this every once in a while, although I think they could have made it look better lol. But seriously this is how traditions are started...just because it wasn't a tradition started in your prime doesn't mean it won't be in someone elses prime. Otherwise we wouldn't have checkerboard endzones, or run out through the T etc. Nobody on here was alive when UT football began.....so don't act like it. The black is ok!

I say it's time to start a new tradition with the Kiffin era. They aren't going to wear the black jerseys all of the time. I have no problem with them doing something different.

I believe when UT football was first found we wore black Uniforms.

must have been before 1889

Orange and White
The school colors of orange and white date to April 12, 1889, when Charles Moore, president of UT Knoxville's athletic association, chose the colors for the first field day. His inspiration came from the orange and white daisies that grew profusely on the Hill. Students endorsed the colors in 1892.

Black is not one of the original colors.

Black is a traditional (albeit antique) football color for this program.

Check out any edition of The Volunteer, circa 1910 or thereabouts, and then look up the athletics section. What you'll see are Tennessee football players wearing black jerseys with orange stripes.

Some of our early coaches were Princeton grads, so the earliest standardized jersey we had at Tennessee was basically the Princeton jersey.

This isn't a defacement of the temple going on here. We're simply going in this instance to an old jersey color we were using for decades before we chose the orange.

What I am talking about.

We are talking about colors of uniforms. Go drink a few beers and chill. People are entitled to opinions, thus the nature of a board. Obviously, you can't handle anyone disagreeing with you. Gee, sounds like someone in Washington....

you should visit the politics forum

I bet savageorangejug has slipped into depression by now. First lil wayne, now black jerseys. Someone should check on him

Yes, and you would probably vote for Bush again in 2012 if allowed.

Is he running against the current Ivy League idiot in charge?

I'm at the point where I want a Constitutional Amendment banning Ivy League grads from the Presidency.

Seems to me like there may be some gay dudes around here (not that there's [much of] a problem with that or whatever).

The change to black is badass. PERIOD.
Granted, there does need to be better design--I'd like some bold black lines on the helmets, etc. But the black uniform is ENERGIZING! Kiffin and team is focusing on motivation. And I think he/they have made the right decision here.

The UT orange that we know was basically chosen by the hippie generation. And while I don't necessarily have any problem with hippies or what they do, I do have a problem with they're badassness and competitiveness. Throwing some black in there makes us seem more threatening. It's definitely the change our emotional team needs.

You know about the psychological studies about the effect of color over mood don't you?

what in the hell does not liking the color black in tennessee's jerseys have to do with sexual orientation?

i think it looks terrible and our colors are orange and white, noones playing any harder than we were last week.

Meaning that before then UT orange was more rust orange colored.

Also, I don't meant to cause any offense--I just mean that people are too conservative and sensitive.

UT has sucked far too hard here for a while, and I'm glad to finally see some change. (It's the biggest "change" I've seen from the numerous people who have promised change.)

Anything to make the Vols a stronger, "harder" team. I've always said that their biggest problem is that they are too "emotional"--they bring it against good teams and lose it again "easy" teams. It's ridiculous.
A good football team tried to KILL everyone! It does not matter who it is or how well/bad they've done previously. When they play MY team, they're going to get hurt!

You hear me?!
