lord vader.... this may be a dumb question but they will stop and chat with the three commits we already got from georgia right????? we dont want them using the bruce irvin excuse

Yes, they will stop in for sure. Orgeron was at Ooltewah to see Jacques. CLK and Gran were at STA, and I'm sure Palardy knew they were there...

it impresses me that Coach O would stop by to see Jacq, even though he is as solid a commitment as you could hope for. it would be easy to forget about the recruits you already have on board, at least in terms of visits and communication.

Chaney will be in Cali on Saturday evaluating Sims while Reaves will be in Texas evaluating Cam.

If there's anyone on this staff that I'm a little hesitant with regarding their coaching ability and ability to properly evaluate, it'd be Reaves. Since I'm more of a Newton than Simms guy, I hope he comes back with glowing reviews.

Don't worry they have them digital camcorders now instead of those rickity 8mm.

Would Fulmer actually have a shot with Jacques Smith?

He committed to Fulmer then backed out when the new staff came in. Then he got to know Kiffin and once again became a Vol. Jacques bleeds Orange, probably wouldn't matter who the coach was. Dude's a Vol...

I got a kick with Fulmer doing early recruiting because I thought he was behind the eight ball all the time and then he has to hurry up and finish strong. That is why he was well-known as being a good closer.

I disagree. I think Kiffin is more of a closer. We don't have a full body of work to see yet. But when you recruit nationally and go after committed players, it takes a while for them to come around. The local kids like Jacques commit a lot earlier. That's why UGA & Texas always have a jump on early recruiting, b/c they get such a high percentage of their class from in-state.

He would not have been recruiting in Jackson Hole. I say this because several years ago Fulmer went on Vacation to Jackson Hole the week before the Florida game. We got destroyed in the game. After that I knew phil was not in it to win anymore.

Whew, we have a ton of D-line recruits this year

In reality, we really don't. I mean compared to years past when Fulmer continued to fail at getting big time D-linemen, yes it's stocked so far. But look....

P. Harris may not make it in

B. Irvin decommitted

D. Jones will get 1st shot on offense at TE

R. Broussard may decommit for LSU

So you've got Smith, Miller, and Copeland at DE. Willis and Brown at DT.

Even if we hold onto P. Harris and R. Broussard, and they both make it in, it's not like we're over doing it at all. We'll probably take another DE and another DT even with our current commits staying on.

I'd say we'll end up with Mahoney and Lemonier or Wayne Dorsey.

One obvious thing is this staff are strong starters.

Not having a lot of in-state talent hurts us. In most cases we need to try and get a recruit on campus first, whereas in TX, Florida, SoCal those kids grow up knowing the environment, etc so it isn't a big deal for them to commit early. In order for us to get commitments (in most cases) it usually follows a sequence of 1) invite to camp, get them on campus, 2) official visit during the season, 3) hope for a commit.... I remember a few years ago there was an article highlighting Fulmer and Bobby Bowden's recruiting styles. Bowden liked to get recruits to visit in the off-season (during the summer, etc) b/c it allowed for more one on one time. This worked for FSU b/c most of the kids they were recruiting was already familiar with the gameday atmosphere. At UT, on the other hand, our biggest sales pitch is to bring a kid in and have him experience a gameday atmosphere, so Fulmer usually tried to get kids to visit during the season even though it meant less one on one time...

I really hope people will avoid turning this into a bash Fulmer post, but alas, i know my hopes are in vain.

Hey Vader, do you think our staff really goes after Mack Brown? How unexpected is this? Would really stick it to Urbie the great!

Mack Brown was talking about visiting like a month ago or so. At least I think he was. Then Urban got his panties in a wad and he decided he wouldn't visit.

I think at the time Irvin had not decommitted and neither had Delvin Jones. Right now though, I agree 100% with what you said. With the way we need to rotate linemen I like bringing in all these hosses.

I was hoping for a commitment or two after this weekend's blowout. I read that Cullen was very close to committing.

Yes, they are going to go after him until NSD or until we get a RB. He would be a great fit here, not so much at UF...

Head coach Lane Kiffin flew back in Tuesday for practice along with running backs coach Eddie Gran. The two spent Monday and Tuesday morning recruiting in South Florida.

Kiffin headed back out Tuesday night. Ed Orgeron, Willie Mack Garza, Frank Wilson, Lance Thompson, James Cregg and David Reaves all missed Tuesday's practice to recruit.

Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney spent Monday in California recruiting and flew the red eye home in time for meetings and Tuesday's practice. Defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin is expected to be on the road during the day Wednesday.

"It's actually kind of fun because individuals aren't that long, which is the boring part of practice for me. So we just do a bunch of team stuff," Kiffin joked of being short-handed on the practice field. "It's good though. Our guys are all over the country seeing the best players and the reception has been phenomenal, especially after our last game.

"With all the coordinators here we're able to get a lot of work done."

James is a reported silent based on the quotes at his thread. He was impressed with our play against Georgia
