We're not going to fire Jeff Fisher either!

Big Ben being Big Ben and turning the ball over about 13 times didn't hurt the Titans' cause in that game.

what he said still favors though that it's more Jim Schwartz being gone (or Cecil sucking) than haynesworth being gone

Someone enlighten me on what has Fisher done in his 16 years to be considered one of the "best" NFL coaches? His career stats are very pedestrian. He has a career winning percentage well under 60%, made the playoffs 6 times, a losing record in the post season, only 3 divisional titles, only 1 conference title and has never had 3 consecutive winning seasons. That's all it takes to be "one of the best"?

I don't necessarily want Fisher gone, but I wonder this same thing. I mean his claim to fame is making the Super Bowl 10 years ago. Since then he's won what, 2 playoff games? And blown #1 seeds twice (granted 2000 they lost the eventual Super Bowl champions).

Just seems like other coaches have been let go that have accomplished more at other places, like Shanahan at Denver and Gruden at Tampa.

Fisher's gotten the most out of the talent that we've had the past few years. If Fisher has a team like the 08 Steelers, he's got himself a championship ring.

...how exactly? all that's mainly going to do is let teams keep their more expensive players

the worse part is the lockout (no season) that would follow the uncapped season

Nashville is one of the smaller markets. I don't see Reinfeldt or Adams shelling out the money when bigger teams after going after players. Heck, we don't spend enough now and we are in a capped league.

here's what an uncapped year is going to do:

players have to wait 6 years rather than 4 years to become an unrestricted free agent (i.e. players drafted from 2004 and earlier); everyone under that is restricted and cannot be signed without somewhat equal compensation from the team signing him (actually i'm not completely quite sure if restricted FA is still around in this case or not; otherwise it's just no Free agency till after 6 years)

each team gets 2 franchise tags to use on players rather than one

teams that finish in the final 8 in the playoffs can't sign a free agent until they release one other free agent

That's pretty much what will happen (among some other things). You won't have massive NY Yankee like spending by teams and the Free agent market will be pretty bare b/c -unless there's like some 8 year guy that a team really can't keep (with all these other things thrown out) - each team is going to have a way to keep its main/major players.

No team is going to suddenly find itself out of money, nor again will you really see any major ridiculous spending (b/c there won't be really much to sign talent wise)

The big and important issue - which for some reason the sports media keeps forgetting - is that without a salary cap agreement, there's going to be a lockout in 2011.

Or simply put, no CBA, no 2011 NFL season

Question from a Colts fan.
I have always wondered why Fisher gets a free pass? If he were coaching any other team he would have already been fired.

He doesn't really have a free pass. I'm sure you weren't paying that much attention to this team in 2006 since that was the Colts superbowl year and as a fan most likely most things you remember from that season are going to relate to that, but coming into 2006 the titans had won 5 & 3 games the previous seasons and fisher was in the last year of his contract. If he had a bad season, he wasn't going to get an extension. He came out and with a very bad team that started 0 and like 4 or 5 was able to get that team to finish 8-8 and actually just miss the playoff by losing to the pats in the last game, thus earning him an extension. He then made the playoffs the next season. The guy performs very well in his contract years. He's also been able to do a pretty to sometimes very good job with this team's rosters, which usually don't have that much talent players. The guys record goes to another thing, and it wasn't until this last season that he became a "playoff underachiever." but also too this team just went 13-3 last season. No owner in this league is going to get rid of a coach after that kind of a season even if a bad one follows, unless they have some preexisting issues with the coach or like the chargers owner have some issues period. Those last two seasons and all the other stuff really keep his job safe

Also if he were fired in the next year or two, he gets snatched up quickly for one of the open coaching gigs. That's already guaranteed

Someone should add a poll to this thread

Who should Jeff Fisher have promoted (hired) as Defensive Coordinator?

a) Dave McGinnis

b) Gregg Williams

c) Chuck Cecil

d) Somebody new from outside the organization

No way Fisher goes anywhere. He is the man. All of this will get turned back around. We have alot of questions though

Don't get me wrong I hope they keep him which I am sure they will. But this guy is really overrated.
As I said earlier he would have already been fired if he coached any other team.
He really does get a pass from the ownership, the fans and Nashville media. The always blame everyone else but Fisher.

Not really. He was going to get canned after the 2006 season when it looked like they were going to have their third consecutive 3 or 4 win type season before the team got on a bit of a roll and were in contention to make the playoffs on the final day before losing to the Patriots.

so he's basically Haynesworth with a mustache?

True. We're a team built ready to win now. Our quarterback play and DC position is the only thing holding us back. I surely hope Reinfeldt doesn't start to dismantle this team because of a bad year.

Al Haynesworth in a contract year >>>>>>> Al Haynesworth sitting on a $100,000,000 contract.

Simply put, it isn't Haynesworth. He's a small factor, but it was the defense we were running. Losing Finnegan and later Harper doesn't help, but our defense was completely out of position in every game this year. There were glaring holes in coverage that even Garrard exploited.

Cecil might have been a "hard-hitting player" (I've heard that in every single game), but he's clearly not a good DC. He inherited 3/4 backfield starters as Pro Bowlers and has effectively doubled their yards/game given up as well as points.

Not all is lost. Fisher is one of the better Coaches in the NFL. Bud Adams has made his job harder. Adams isn't as bad as Davis or Jones, but he definitely makes the choices. He finally gave way and let Fisher draft a WR in the first round. A big-time QB will go far... we're not as completely lost as it would seem.

OL:
Pretty good but Mawae is at the end of his career.

RB:
CJ is among the top 5 RBs, but with no passing game, he'll be shut down by most defenses.

WR:
Britt looks to be excellent. Nate Washington still hasn't earned his payroll.

QB:
VY will never be the answer. Try him out at WR next year if he's still on the team. Give Tony Pike, Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy good looks and make your pick.

even great coaches (which i'd argue fisher isn't) can wear on a team after a long enough time. i think the titans clearly need fresh blood.

As a Colts fan I hope they keep him. But 2 coaches that would worry me as a rival fan would be either Shannahan or Cowher

I would put Shannahan, Cowerher and Fisher on fairly equal footing. I would put Cowher in front of this group but Shannahan and Fisher would be neck and neck.
