This coaching staff isn't in the business of promising starting jobs. They provide the opportunity to earn it and no more. If a kid doesn't like that, then they can look elsewhere.
They are not going to sign a Juco kid unless they feel like he is going to start. That is what this week evaluations are about. I think they would like to redshirt Bray and recruit another Big time QB in 2011. If Bray is starting that is going to make getting one in 2011 harder. But I feel like they will do what gives them the best chance to win either way. But IMO that would be to sign Newton. Most seem to think they like Simms better which kind of baffles me. But let it play out. We may not know until the end of November.
I just don't see how Kiffin can turn down a talent like Newton. He very well may, but I don't see how. You work those guys into your system. This dude is a stud.
Just live with it 61. We are going to get Simms. LWS' word is gold...
I know.... I know....
I just can't picture a Simms running through the T. Plus you have to look at his dad.... The next thing you know his damn brother will be sitting in the stands.
I just can't believe this may happen. I am about to get sick....
I know it doesn't matter but I think this is a mistake. I don't see how you could take him in front of Newton. But like I said I don't pretend to know as much as they do. We will see how it plays out.

I don't believe JUCO QBs do much for your program.
I also think it's funny that people drool over Newton's measurables.
+1. Simms would represent another guy on the depth chart, much like Lamaison (although I still think NL has enough potential to surprise a lot of folks)...whereas Cam would only be brought in for one thing...the expectation to win the starting job and help get CLK's wins sooner rather than later.I just don't see how Kiffin can turn down a talent like Newton. Well, It looks like the coaching staff disagree's....
I don't think playing Bray as a true freshmen is the answer. And at least this week it seems coach Kiffin feels the same way. We need depth at QB. That will require signing a QB for 2011. Playing Bray makes that harder.
Newtons measurables are impressive to say the least. The numbers he is putting up at Blinn are impressive as well. He has a big time arm and he is physically ready to play in the SEC. The mental part is the question. No one on the board knows if the kid can handle that part or not. I don't care how smart they try to make themselves sound. The coaches will determine what course to take. I like Newton the best but like I said earlier they know what they want.
But it appears to be a Juco....
A JUCO QB is like buying a front tire for your vehicle with 20,000 miles on it.
I believe Kiffin will bring in another JUCO QB this year. He almost has to because Stephens and Lamaison aren't going to be doing much. Bray will be a bean pole freshman.
However, no one should think the JUCO QB is going to be a savior for the program. He'll be a stopgap at best, a wasted scholly at worst.
Under normal circumstances that is the case, but you and I both know, these aren't normal JUCO prospects, so please stop it with the JUCO = No good BUMS lectureA JUCO QB is like buying a front tire for your vehicle with 20,000 miles on it.

As LV has pointed out...sometimes you can find a real gem....like Josh Huepel and Colt Brennan.
Both cases here are unique (with Simms and Newton), and for that reason, they may work out quite well.
Both guys were highly rated in HS. Newton was a 5*...and you don't find too many of those hanging out in the JUCO ranks.
