Hey guys. This might be a stupid post but I feel lead to say this but I want to make sure that everyone knows that I don’t mean to offend anyone on this board if you don’t agree with me. I’m a Christian that believes in God and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I understand that football is just a game (I’ve posted that before about Tebow this week) and it’s separate from religion but for some people, the game of football relates to everything in life; that’s why it’s the greatest game on Earth.

I sat down this morning before work, opened my orange Bible and started reading some scripture from the book of Joshua and I think it’s pretty relevant. See the Israelites (God’s people) were lead out of slavery in Egypt by Moses but Moses couldn’t lead them to the land that God had promised his people, Canaan. Moses died and Joshua took over as leader of the Israelites. Joshua doubted himself but God said in Joshua 1:5-9 –

“No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS! Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

I read that and can’t help but apply it to Saturday/the current state of Tennessee football. Joshua went on to lead the Israelites into Canaan and took back what was theirs. Along the way, his troops were outnumbered and outsized; he took on giants and tore down walls (Jericho). We’re under new leadership and we’re outsized/the underdogs this Saturday; no body believes in us and that includes about 60% of our fans! I’m not saying now that I read this that we are guaranteed a victory, not at all but I believe that anything can happen when you step out onto that field. Our players need to BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS and “Give their all for Tennessee!” Tennessee is God’s country and our promise land is the National Championship. We gotta believe and fight our battles strategically and we will get there! I’m freaking fired up about the Vols this weekend! Win or lose, this is the team I love more than anything. Sorry this was a novel of a message but I felt lead to say it. Didn't mean to preach at ya but I can't help it :)

Go Vols! God Bless!

How well can Joshua throw the football, and does he have any eligibility left?

you know, walking into the GA Dome in 07 I was told I was going to hell because I worshiped the 'T' instead of the cross. Tells me it just depends on your view. Probably a good idea just to keep the 2 things separate

I personally believe some will go to hell for worshiping the beasts of the fields and swamps instead of the T.

Are you saying that God promised us a National Championship? Did your orange bible tell you that or have you been talking to burning shrubery lately? :eek:lol:

Very typical to take something from the Bible and use it to make a point, don't you think?

Would you feel the same if someone had come on here quoting the Koran, and twisting it around to make it apply to tomorrow's UT/UF game? .... I doubt it.

Please take this elsewhere... I come here for Tennessee football talk, not to be preached at.

Thanks,
Matt
(A believer in God, btw... )

Ironically, there is another thread where people are freaked out because of an Islamic prayer day on Capitol Hill.

This is one of those "men just want to argue about something" post isn't it? I get it.

I hate discussion related to religion or politics. Ironically our company CEO just emailed all employees with a polictically and religiously charged 3 page company update. Completely inappropriate.

So let me see if I have this straight. We should repeal the First Ammendment to the US Constitution, because the free expression of Christian ideas is offensive to atheists. So therefore, the United States should adopt atheism as their official state religion.

Do I understand correctly?

Technically from my keyboard.

But my point is, ut vol03 started a thread with a topic supportive of the team that this forum is supposed to be for, and it wasn't three replies down before folks began telling him what he should remove, characterizing his statements as unacceptable because they came out of the Bible, etc.

I saw less objection to a thread posted by the gator trolls so they could high five each other over their assumption that they will beat the Vols by 50 than I see in this thread.

Am I wrong?
