The Swamp Horror Stories Thread

I've lived there for 5 years. No problem. For the most part, if you respect the game and the people you will never have a problem. It's the college kids that run their mouth.

They don't want to read this. They want to read stories involving tossed excrement and little old ladies being hurled to their deaths from the top row of the east stands. They want stories of being kidnapped and held prisoner in abandoned well under a single wide and having their back skin made into "Go Gator" lampshades.

Shouldn't that be "GO GATA"?

I sincerely hope your livelihood doesn't involve fortune telling or comedy because you would be homeless and posting this from a compter at the public library..

Oh Crap...are you that guy sitting in the next cubical wearing the jorts and gator t-shirt typing with one finger? I don't know how, but I just knew that was you!

This thread turned out much differently than I expected.

Fact is, just about all rival fans have been heckled on road at some point. It happens. Hell, LSU fans are notorious for running across the street just to get in your face and scream "TIGAH BAIT!!!!" two inches from your nose. These same fans will invite you to their tailgate if you handle yourself properly. If you have a chip on your shoulder or you don't like people yelling at you, then SEC road games just aren't for you.

Throwing beer and spitting are inexcusable. However I've also found that these types of incidents are rarely without some sort of prior verbal confrontation. I've never seen an unassuming rival fan minding his own business walking down University Avenue get doused with beer or spat on...if some $h!t goes down chances are both parties had a hand in escalating the confrontation.

The Swamp definitely isn't for everyone, and our students aren't always eagle scouts and altar boys. But the same can be said of just about every student body in the conference.....except maybe Vanderbilt. If you're quick to anger or ultra sensitive, you're better off staying home.

You act as if it's a privilege to go down to that trash town

Uh oh, looks like I'm being stalked again.....

And you completely missed my point, unless you just wanted to flame. What I posted just now applies to Gainesville, Knoxville, Tuscaloosa, Columbus, Norman, Blacksburg or any big time college football venue.

If you want to get into a confrontation, it's very easy. If you want to avoid a confrontation, it's as easy as you want it to be.

How am I stalking you? You forget you're posting on a TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER message board.. Gainesville doesn't compare to any of the other sites

It was ok... everyone was well behaved if a bit cocky, although some of that could have been the -17.5 spread.

Didn't stick around after the game, but heard a few congrats on the way out.

That sounds a lot like my experience up there in '96 and '02. UT fans were VERY confident those years.

LOL.

Throwing the ber was uncalled for, but you admitted to engaging in smack with rival fans wherever you go. That tends to open you up for confrontations that cross the line.

and thats fine, but if you cross the line, which clearly this cousin humper did, then be ready for the consequences

It's not bad like it was when the student section was behind the players. Then it was very, very bad. So bad the SEC made a rule saying the student's couldn't be behind the opposing team, strictly for the events that happened at Florida.

Heath Shulers first job as a freshman was putting on his helmet and shielding Andy Kelly from the rocks/bottles and bags of excriment thrown at him. That was on one of the DVD's (I think their "quarterbacks" DVD). That was from Shuler himself.

Vicky Fulmer was groped and had her dress ripped by the students down there per the Chattanooga News Free Press. I'm sure Mrs. Fulmer didn't do anything to "provoke" that.

It wasn't just when UT came to town from my understanding, the bags of urine and feces were from the student section not average fans and I don't think they cared which opposing team it was.

That's why they made the rule (at least according to the Free Press that is) .

I haven't heard of our team having much trouble since that rule came into effect.

The entire east stands is where our students sit. Only the first 5-10 rows behind the bench are reserved for visiting fans.

The Vicki Fulmer urine bomb story has grown to urine and feces now....that's news.

Yeah, you forgot to mention they also lit the winning cigar for you and decided you were so special that you should just stay at their place for the night and will be willing to sing Rocky Top at there house with you and all their other Gator fans as you all went to church the next morning together. Get a grip. I was there also in 2001 and I will say I also did not have any problems at all with any of the fans - a little ribbing back and forth and the "Swamp" bar throughout the wknd but that is expected anywhere you go - you have your drunk dbags in every college town and as long as you dont instigate or antagonize then you should be fine. I have heard stories, but they are in every SEC school not just UF.

Where in the hell did that come from? This is a thread where we are talking about our experiences at The Swamp. Mine was a good one. The fans were nice, and they treated me with a lot of respect. That trip is why I go out of my way to be so friendly to visiting fans at Neyland. Sorry for that, but don't you ever call me a Florida fan. I'm tempted to find you and turn off your fantasy video game and strangle you with the Xbox cord.

I think it's fair to say that this happens with every team. Everybody has that jackass who does classless stuff like this. I had an empty bottle of beer thrown at me when I was in the Gator band back in 2000. I've seen drunken Gator fans abuse vol fans and vice versa last year when my wife and I made the trip to K-Vegas. Some Vol yelled out his car window that Tebow was a Florida Alabama Georgia (I won't say the word) to my wife who was wearing a 15 jersey.

To those who have a bad experience, I'm sorry.

Growing up in Florida the first 22 years of my 24 year life and experiencing the city of Gainesville, UF games, and UF fans everyday I can vouch there's not a worse set of fans in the SEC, and I've been to 8 of the 12! Yes, every school has their jerks and rednecks, especially in the SEC, but the amount doesn't compare to UF. My first experience was in '97 as a 12 year old with my dad. Walking out of the stadium and continuing to chant its "Great to be a Tennessee Vol" despite the loss i was told f-you by a grown man in front of my dad. In 2003 the first UF fan I encountered told me to take my f-ing a$$ home to my f-ing trailer you f-ing hillbilly. In 2005 coming off I-75 ramp onto Archer I look over and in the car next to me is a kid no older than middle school giving me the finger while his mom is driving. A girl I knew walked into a bar on Friday night and as she approached the front door the guys on the balcony above her dropped their cups of beer on her and her friends. To top 2005 off, I set by myself in a UF alumni section and was repeatedly hit in the back of the head by the guy behind me (who happened to be in his late 50's early 60's). After three slaps to my head and no one around urging him to stop, I had enough and turned around and told him if he touched me again I was gonna beat his old a$$.

Despite what some might say and surprisingly enough the best away game I've ever been to was Bama in '05. The fans treated us great before and after the game even with them winning. I've never been fed or provided drinks so much, the way they did. Because of that one trip and the hospitaility shown me, Bama will always have a special place with me.
