Kiffin Blown Away By Hatred For Crompton.

Also, if I were Kiffin... I would have limited Crompton to screens and hand offs against UCLA in the 2nd half. HB screens, WR screens, inside handoffs, and tosses to Oku and Brown (Oku didn't even play).

Here's my take on Crompton....

I can't wait until he's no longer the QB at my beloved University of Tennessee, but while he is the QB I will do my best to support him. He is just a kid who is trying his best. His best obviously isn't good enough, but being an amateur athlete IS enough for me to keep from bashing him on radio, tv, or on the street.

One thing to remember also (as Arian Foster's mom can attest), this is someone's child! I know he sucks, you know he sucks, the whole world knows he cannot hit the broad side of a barn.... but don't hammer him like he isn't a human being. Use the "Golden Rule" and treat him as if you'd want your son or daughter to be treated, please.

"How dare you make me bleed my own blood":)

2008 - Games/Starts - 8/6 ... Started at quarterback in first four games and final two ... Threw for 189 yards and set career-highs in attempts (41) and completions (19) in season-opener at UCLA ... Set career-high with 240 passing yards in home-opener against UAB ... Finished game 19-of-31 with two touchdowns and two interceptions ... Finished 18-of-28 for 162 yards and rushed seven times for 22 yards against Florida ... Career long 15-yard rush against Auburn ... Efficient 6-of-8 for 101 yards and one touchdown in finale against Kentucky.

162 yards last year against Florida? THE Florida? with the most dominant, oppressive defense in the world?

Hell, he didn't even have that much against UCLA last saturday did he?

So you're saying there's a chance against Florida?!

No one should hate him, that is dumb. He is the best QB we have evidently and that is bad for us and honestly not that easy on him either.

Three years in a row Tennessee loses the first game of the season. I'm really pumped about the recruits that are coming in. And my only fear of the future is losing this coaching staff. I'm just like everybody else... I want it now. Its not gonna happen until 2011...so i..and everybody else should except the fact its gonna be a couple years. My instinct tells me it will be worth the wait. Go Vols!

What are his stats against non-cupcakes or just the SEC? Just curious.

That's 59.5% completion average... not fantastic, but could be worse. The killer is the TD to INT ratio.

When you take out the cream puffs (UAB, WKU, et al) you get this stat line:

101/206, 1043yds, 5tds, 10int

I'm confused by this post. I guess, in the end, you did actually "support" him a little more than you "bashed" him.

Crompton has all of the physical aspects that makes a great QB, what he lacks is the ability to think on his feet.
He's a mental case and no coaching can ever make him a good QB.

This is just like last year where he looked great in practice but sucked on the field. Kiffin has probably never seen this before in his career and I certainly have never seen this type of behavior from a starting TN QB since I've been watching from the early 70's.

I feel sorry for the guy, but they're giving him the easiest plays they can and he just blows it. This is the second year for him to prove himself and I certainly hope that he can do something this week.

I have meet John and even got to watch a minor league Baseball game with he and Wes Brown last year. They are both outstanding young men who really do care about the University of Tennessee. I wish that John could get things turned around more for himself than us the fans. His confidence in himself has to be shaken if not destoryed. I know that we are all quick to blame the qb when things aren't going well but he is only one of 22 guys that are on the field. I really feel that he is doing his best and I wish him and the rest of the Vols the best of luck this Saturday and for the season.

P.S. Guys we should never boo our boys. They are suppose to get that at away games, not at Neyland.
:good!::good!:

I appreciate Kiffin sticking up for his players and I will support whatever decision he makes. I will be pulling for Crompton hard to get over the hump and be the QB we need him to be. Go Crompton and Go Vols!

I agree with this. He is what he is and that is all we have so we need to just suck it up and hope he has some decent games.

Hey, I've got a great Idea. Lets fire the coaching staff. Have a popular vote on each position and play accordingly. Then we could have a drawing each week to see who starts. We could have a pre game vote to decide which plays and what order they are to be called. When the season is over we can sent out help wanted adds to get players for the next year,. It seem that We know so much more that the coaching staff that I'm not sure we really need them. JMHO:crazy:

I wonder if Crompton will get cheered at Florida when they announce him as the starter? It may not be in good taste to ask, but I think it could happen and either shake his confidence more, or fire him up.

He Should Cut Ogregon loose with the GUndy type of speech...lol

Kiffins remarks today made me think a little. I stay pissed at him for the bonehead mistakes but he is a VOL and our QB for better or worse. I truely wish hed get it together and put a great season in.

GO VOLS.

Kiffin simply is surprised that fans are that angered and irate over the play of a 22 year old amateur athlete...

I wonder if Crompton just had a bad game? i mean come on Peyton Manning has bad games Jay Cutler is a good quarterback and threw 3 Int's the other night im telling you lets trust this kid and just believe in him he has what it takes he just needs to go through with it.

Were you here last year? This is nothing new and a lot of people are over it. Everybody on here would be ecstatic if he played even average yhe rest of the way. We just know it isn't going to happen.

If you watched the game on tv Saturday & you really paid attention did anyone notice the look Kiffin had on his face after Crompton just blew up? It was one of those looks like what just happened, it was like he had no idea it was coming or anything. Kiffin was just stunned that things turned so bad that quick. It was like he had no idea what player that was out their, he just seemed like he never expected that from JC. I honestly believe that Crompton has stage fright, he freezes up when the pressure gets turned on. When he has to start making plays to keep us in the game or to win the game he starts freaking out. He starts rushing things & trying to make a play.

I know exactly what moment you're talking about. First play of the second half. Camera zoomed on Kiffin and he had the "Wow... this kid is a lot worse than I thought." or "He really is that bad..." look on his face.

He looked totally stunned. Sucked.

Crompton may be new to Kiffin, but he's been around for 5 years. We've seen this script before with JC. Maybe Kiffin can do something with him. They at least have some film they can look at and see that he obviously stares his receivers down and makes the wrong read half the time.

I dont wanna say that it was a look of Kiffin thinking Crompton sucked, the impression i got was the Kiffin was just thinking he couldnt believe Crompton was blowing up like that. It was like he never expected Crompton to make those mistakes. It was a look of disbelief.

I saw that. He looked like he was prepared for a lot of situations but what he was seeing wasn't on the list.
