Married with 2 kids ...

This is tough. I am fortunate in that I will never be in this type of situation. Being a UT fan, or at least understanding my love for Vols football, was a prerequisite that my wife had to have. My wife is just as big a Vols fan as I am, so she is very understanding.

Example: My youngest son was born on Friday, 9/1/2006. We had agreed up front that, as long as she and our son were healthy, I was going to go to Knoxville the next day for our opening game. The Lord blessed us with a healthy baby and delivery, and so I was off the next morning to Knoxville to see the Vols beat Cal.

Now, back to your situation ... I think you're stuck this time. However, I would make some good subtle comments (as strong as you feel comfortable) about being interested in watching future football games. You need to set the expectations up front.

One option ... Do you have a good buddy who you can have call you and ask you to watch the game at his house? If so, is there anyone who can use your Elmo ticket in your place?

If all fails, then just tape it and watch it afterwards. All signs point to the Gators giving us a beat down, so you won't miss much. Plus, you can fast forward through timeouts and commercials.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

GBO!

Go to the show with the kids and DVR . If it turns out as bad as it probably will you can skip thru all the heartache and keep the wife happy in the process .

I feel like a lucky guy. My wife loves college football(she's an auburn fan and one of our first discussions was the hatred for bama.) my daughter(she's 2) sings Rocky Top.

If you have Tivo or something like that then record it and watch later. Spending time with the family is time you never get back.
With that said, if you can't record you have to make her understand the importance of this game.
And yes, I am married with one son.

I love it.

The answer just dawned on me!

680 the Fan in Atlanta is actually a radio affiliate for the Florida Gators and will be broadcasting the game. Go to Elmo Live and take a radio.

Ahem "go to the restroom" check on phone. Call friend. Make sure friend knows you will be calling so he or she can expect it. If its a blow out, you might enjoy Elmo

A few thoughts:

Suggest a girlfriend/grandparent/wino on the corner go with her.

Give the tiks (and the kids) to a family friend with a child. Then she can stay home and learn to love the game.

Go to Blockbuster and get every Elmo DVD you can find and play them non-stop until everyone is sick of him.

Teach the wife and kids to love the Vols.

If you don't have Tivo/DVR this could be the perfect time to go get one.

Get an iPhone/portable radio etc and some earphones. Glance her way occasionally, nod and smile. Just be careful not to let out a "%^$^*^!!!" or "Kill him!" as Elmo is laughing.

BTW....I have 3 kids and 1 ex-wife.:)

Ok, you obviously have started very late in accepting college football as the great sport that it is. But that 9 year old definitely needs to be on your side. That's quality 1 on 1 time right there...... grandparents can go.....hint hint

Oh, its not just a filipina fetish. Its a foreign one. I hate everything about American women. They can look alright, but beyond that......there is nothing positive.

Lulz dont know if id go that far. And actually most of us are foreigners. Just if you want to be politically correct. But what ever floats ur boat...:)
