Married with 2 kids ...
This is tough. I am fortunate in that I will never be in this type of situation. Being a UT fan, or at least understanding my love for Vols football, was a prerequisite that my wife had to have. My wife is just as big a Vols fan as I am, so she is very understanding.
Example: My youngest son was born on Friday, 9/1/2006. We had agreed up front that, as long as she and our son were healthy, I was going to go to Knoxville the next day for our opening game. The Lord blessed us with a healthy baby and delivery, and so I was off the next morning to Knoxville to see the Vols beat Cal.
Now, back to your situation ... I think you're stuck this time. However, I would make some good subtle comments (as strong as you feel comfortable) about being interested in watching future football games. You need to set the expectations up front.
One option ... Do you have a good buddy who you can have call you and ask you to watch the game at his house? If so, is there anyone who can use your Elmo ticket in your place?
If all fails, then just tape it and watch it afterwards. All signs point to the Gators giving us a beat down, so you won't miss much. Plus, you can fast forward through timeouts and commercials.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes!
