Will he apologize? Or be reprimanded?

This is a real hive of intellectual debate isnt it!! Man, UT must be an awesome college to produce such skilled debaters.
you pulled the fat card. I pulled the summer teeth to highlight the dearth of orthodontists in socialist Europe.

Neither of the two of us you're debating went to UT. However, each of us has held his own here, even with your British heritage.

do you really think you wouldn't get care in America if you were jobless and hit by a truck?

Do you really believe it shouldn't cost anything if you are? The rest of the taxpayers should foot that bill, even though footing it will provide lesser care than the private system, even at your own admission? That's senseless.

Your bankrupt piece implies that someone else should foot the bill for your health and it's absolutely pathetic. That's the reason the GDP charts of the two nations look absurd in comparison.

Taking the government and its regulation from the industry is the only way that we will ever get back to the system whereby the deliverer interacts directly with the payor. When we get back to that, the open markets will set pricing appropriately. Allowing medicare into the public system has destroyed it, from a pricing perspective.

erm, do you also think the reason might be because our country is about one third the size of Texas?

hey, I was just responding to the teeth comment. I love Americans. :)

do people on this forum usually get so angry and personal when someone has the audacity to disagree with them?
nobody's angry. This is how we do it here. The dustups are the fun.

gdp growth has nothing to do with size. Being an investment banker, it should make sense to you that growing a small number is much easier than growing a large one. Have you lost it since you moved over to a hedge fund?

Why is it you keep referring to Europe as 'socialist'? London is the financial capital of the world. More trading volume flows through London than any other city...you couldnt find a more capitalist place if you tried! France has the most conservative government its had in years at the moment, and the Euro is as strong as its ever been. Tell me, what is it about Europe that is so 'socialist'?

the financial capital of the world. That's funny.

Aren't we here debating nationalized healthcare? Aren't you from the land that has same?

Europe has spent forever trying to break the bonds of its socialist history and has struggled to do so. America has spent it's history with our educated elites trying to foist eurosocialism upon us, while our entrepreneurial spirit has tried to stave it off. It's a battle we're losing and the diminution of the economic dominance we enjoyed over the 20th century shows it. FDR started us down the disastrous trail to euro governance and we are paying for it in spades today.

We are laissez faire capitalists at our very core. Europe is socialist at its very core. That's why the continent is covered up in absurd hourly wage rules and vacations for months per year.

A world where facts reign supreme. More trading volume goes through London, particularly in the world of M&A. If you dont want to believe it because it goes against the 'US is best' mantra then fine, but it doesnt stop it being true.

My god, are you actually trying to argue that minimum wage is a bad thing???

France get lots of time off. In the UK, the legal minimum that an employer has to grant a full time employee is 25 days per year. My employer in NY gives me 20, although I also get two personal days..so not that much difference really.

Anyway, you are right one point. We are fundamentally different. I guess we'll never agree, but it is fun to argue!

I'm off to get lunch. Laters.

if you knew economics you'd realize minimum wage increases rarely benefit the poor. the greatest winners are students, by a HUGE margin.

and standard for the US is 2 weeks vacation. you are saying that the MINIMUM BY LAW is 2.5 times that? and you don't consider a country that REQUIRES 4 weeks of vacation a socialist country. that's going into communist territory for christ sake.

It's politics pure and simple. One side wants him to apologize to embarrass him to turn over his seat. He's using his outburst to bolster support among his base.

An apology on the floor is pretty much meaningless other than politically.

I agree.

The Dems would have been much better off if they'd expressed their distress at this that night and the day after and just reminded folks of it from time to time as evidence that the Republicans have lost their sense of civility and honor to the president, like him or not.

But nooooo, they had to try to make an example of him and keep it in the news and I think its backlashing as he already apologized, admitted he lost his cool and should not have done it, and Obama accepted.

Now its the House Dems who look petty, and I have to say that in this instance that they are.

That must depend on where you are in the country or what industry you work in. I dont know anyone that gets less than 20 days out of my circle of friends in NY. I know that people do get less in other parts of the country though, but I'm not sure if I'd say that 10 days is 'standard'. If it is though, thats very sad. Who wants to go through life working like that? It doesnt really increase productivity, it just leads to an unhappy workforce. Say you work for 40 years..are you saying that you think its a good thing that with 10 days vacation per year you'd only have just over a year off in your whole working life?? Thats insane. No wonder you guys arent exactly renowned for traveling outside of your borders!

An American friend of mine just started working for Societe General in NY as a junior research analyst, and he starts off on 33 days vacation!! I believe people in France typically get something like 40 days off per year...and guess what? They still manage to be a major world player! BNP Paribas, Societe General, Canal Plus, France Telecom, Credit Agricole, Credit Lyonaisse, Danon, Chanelle, Christian Dior, LVMH, Thomson (who now own Reuters) to name just a few global corporations....Just how do they do it if they are too busy being all lazy and socialist and enjoying life?? It really is a mystery:dunno:

Thanks, but I'm nowhere near that small, sociable and British. The fella in the avatar is Maurice Moss, a character on the comedy The IT Crowd. This might be a closer representation of the real me:

Funny how Republican Rep. Joe Wilson is labeled a racist and SCREAMED to the roof tops by every Lib MSM out there.

But not a peep from them on Kayne West!
