First, there’s no certainty Arkansas beats Mississippi State the following week just because they beat Tennessee. Second, a loss to Arkansas almost certainly drops Tennessee behind both Ohio State and Florida State in the human polls, which were the by far biggest factor in the early BCS days. Even if Tennessee avenges that loss in Atlanta, there’s no guarantee the voters move them back ahead of OSU and FSU. The SEC was a good league in 1998, but it didn’t have the same cachet it had from 08-22, so a one-loss SEC champ wasn’t automatically getting the benefit of the doubt.
Of course, none of this is certain. But Arkansas lost on a field goal to Mississippi State because they were flat. And we know why.
The human element likely takes Weinke’s injury into account. And the computer element would weigh that win over undefeated Arkansas very highly. That would be the final impression of the season. Better than any of the other 1-loss teams’ final impression. I think Tennessee gets in. At the least, it’s not a certainty that that fumble saved a natty for Tennessee.

Glad we didn’t have to find out.

What is certain is even after Stoerner fumble, Tennessee still had to score. They never threw the ball once on the way to the endzone. Another thing for certain in we went 13-0. All that matters is what the score is when the game is over! GBO! If if’s and butts were candy and nuts we would always have a Merry Christmas!

A super underrated band I just found a few weeks ago is The Band Camino, they’re an alt rock band from Nashville Tennessee, I recommend yall listen to Daphne Blue, Haunted, See through, Karaoke and Mascara
There's another one called The Band Dorado but they're more of a big band like old people like.
