Me, yesterday: [Didn’t remember Jadais Richard was on the team]Watching Bluechip Breakdown on YouTube
He just said he’s hearing Jadais Richard (transfer from Miami) may be out for the season. Has anyone else heard this? Anyone on TOS talked about it?
I typically take what he says with a grain of salt but just was interesting to hear him say it
First, there’s no certainty Arkansas beats Mississippi State the following week just because they beat Tennessee. Second, a loss to Arkansas almost certainly drops Tennessee behind both Ohio State and Florida State in the human polls, which were the by far biggest factor in the early BCS days. Even if Tennessee avenges that loss in Atlanta, there’s no guarantee the voters move them back ahead of OSU and FSU. The SEC was a good league in 1998, but it didn’t have the same cachet it had from 08-22, so a one-loss SEC champ wasn’t automatically getting the benefit of the doubt. No one else was undefeated. KState lost and UCLA lost at the end of the season. Tennessee likely would have gotten a rematch with an undefeated Arkansas team (they wouldn't have lost to Miss State the following week...which they lost on a last-minute FG... without the hangover from the devastating loss to UT). So Tennessee is playing Arkansas in Atlanta. Arkansas is undefeated and ranked in the top 5. Maybe #1. Beating that team puts Tennessee ahead of the other 1-loss teams. UCLA and KState lost during championship game week. They're out. FSU lost to an average NC State team and Weinke was injured, so that would have been considered and held against them by voters. Ohio State lost to a .500 Michigan State team. I could maybe see Ohio State being #1, but Tennessee would be no lower than #2 in those circumstances, so we're still playing for the NC.
