OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I used to get worked up over crap like this, but after lockouts and strikes since the 70s, the '94 strike with Glavine as the rep really chapped my cheeks. Was a huge Braves fan at the time since I lived in GA, but I developed an intense dislike for him over that one. Just got fed up with the bickering and greed while the fans didn't merit a thought. Figured if they didn't give a flip about the game and the fans, then why should I invest and bother? I quit pro baseball that year and never went back. From the Reds to the A's to the Braves to not caring and never looking back.

What Nicolas Cage movie .would you consider his best?
There seems to be 100s that I've never heard of.
Valley Girl (1983) was the 1st time I remember seeing him.

Google Search
Man, that's tough. So many great flicks. Can't pick one, but three I really enjoyed.....Face Off...just a great movie. He and Travolta killed it in that one. The Rock with Connery was a favorite but more for the old man. Will always watch Gone in 60 seconds just for the cars. My sleeper....and don't laugh...Ghost Rider. Great flick. Always enjoyed watching Evel Knievel back in the day and rode motorcycles for years so that movie kind of spoke to me....oh...and Eva Mendes.

Naw. Got tied up with the missus and errands. Kinda forgot about the game. Guess we lost?
Yep. Had a feeling ECU was gonna get us. Best start lining up portal prospects and get started with those visits. Question is will Elander have the support/funds to really go all out in the portal? I have my doubts.

Decent season, but still disappointing. Hope Elander can learn and get our deficiencies addressed. Not sure why, but I'm not nearly as upset as I thought I'd be if we lost. Since mid season I've kinda been apathetic about the program this year.

I don't think Cage is a great actor at all only good at best in some of those movies.

Agreed, but I do like a lot of his movies....even National Treasure. Love conspiracy stuff, archaeology and history. That one also hits me where I live.... but sadly no Eva Mendes in those.

I agree I also like some movies too. JMO that he's a good actor is all.
I see Cage along side of someone like Jonah Hill as an actor

I’m not sure that we have the arms to win out of the losers bracket. But the season ain’t over yet.
This is a very young team. Making it this far is nothing to hang their heads about.
Yep. Could have been worse. See Vandy and LSU. And while it's technically not over yet...it kinda is. The arms just aren't there. The team just doesn't have that "it" factor if that makes sense. This season feels like the '85 UT vs GaTech football game. Just kinda numb...a wee bit apathetic.

Damn '85 UT vs GT. That draws nothing but a blank w/me.
I do recall that '85 Bama game though w/Dale Jones int.

He's more like James Coburn in my book. Not a great leading man, but good enough that I'd watch his movies. Gotta say...Cage was really good at picking scripts that fit him. He's also not a one trick pony like Liam Neeson...although I'll watch most anything that he does, too.

When Frank left to follow Tony at the 11th hour it put the coaching staff in a bad spot. E had to scramble for a replacement. There was minimal time to mold the young arms given the short timeframe. We’ll see a much improved team next year, not that this year was a failure.

Our floor is making the regionals, I’ll take it.

That's my point. I sat thru that tech game and just felt numb. Left the stadium not thinking about the game itself and getting pissed, but cutting the grass when I got home. No juice....none. This years baseball team and staff give me the same feeling. I imagine it's how I'd feel if I tried watching LVs basketball.

Speaking of the rambling wreck, they are going to be a tough out.

Considering I can remember hoping we could just make Hoover most years....I agree. Still, this years team feels kinda blah/bland. Very milquetoast-ish.
I remember dropping a 12 year old can of Lima beans from the darkest corner of my grandmothers pantry, into the big brown barrel outside Lower Hudson, to get in free.
Yeah, we’ve come a long way
