This is absolutely a championship philosophy. Go get developed physically for 2 seasons and then come back. Don’t over pay for a freshman and then be handcuffed during portal season. Portal season is the most critical recruiting season for a football team due to immediate impact additions.AP said on the pod this morning that he filmed a commitment video on Thursday. Clemson came in on the weekend with a final offer and that UT is no longer getting in bidding wars on freshmen unless they will be impact players year one.
I hate to say it, but I’m getting Butch Jones last recruiting class vibes this year. a few good gems, but the rest of the class very average. Luckily these days we have the portal, so hopefully we’ll get lucky there

lol. Dude it’s May. Please tell me you are either drunk or being intentionally sarcastic. Because you cannot be serious.I hate to say it, but I’m getting Butch Jones last recruiting class vibes this year. a few good gems, but the rest of the class very average. I agree. I'm going to reserve judgement until I see what he does in the portal. It just makes more financial sense to not pay for players that you have to pay for a year or 2 before they can contribute....and are going to want more money by the time they develop anyway. I've wondered how long it was going to take for schools to start putting this into application, but Indiana absolutely put on a clinic that every school in the country would be foolish not to pay attention to.This is absolutely a championship philosophy. If we are being honest, they badly duffed the portal recruitment of a QB this past cycle. I'm hoping that that there is a move to focus more on portal and quit wasting your budget on freshmen and sophomores who aren't seeing the field.I think I'll hold off on blindly taking a relaxing view of springtime high school recruiting when I see us becoming major players in the portal as a means of reestablishing a strong foothold there in recruiting, instead. If we continue with a tepid approach in that area, especially offensively, Heupel will dig his own grave.
I want to believe there is a plan, and that we plan to be more aggressive in the portal at the expense of recruiting developmental high school kids. I'm just in a "see it to believe it" mindset at this point given the status of our current QB situation.

You think we went out and swung for the fences with the new defensive staff only to turn around and not have a plan in recruiting?I think I'll hold off on blindly taking a relaxing view of springtime high school recruiting when I see us becoming major players in the portal as a means of reestablishing a strong foothold there in recruiting, instead.
