I understand that it's the off-season, however the fact that GMac has had a yr under his belt already of practice reps, learning the offense etc and has NOT separated himself from a true FR is scary.
There are reports that he has looked UNPLAYABLE toward the end of spring and that the staff are completely shocked and if they had known he was going to be this bad they would have undoubtedly fought harder to bring in a starter in the portal.
So at this point I say FB will be the starter not only bcuz of his talent but just bcuz GM hasn't progressed at all and has quite even shown some regression. If he hasn't seized the position nor shown progress after being here this long then he obviously isn't the guy. Roll w FB and hope for the best.

The good news is that we have receivers this year that can actually get separation this year so whoever is under center will have good weapons around him to elevate his play

IMHO, if the competition is close CJH should roll with Faizon. I’m not really interested in doing this all over again next offseason and I’m not a fan of the 2 QB system. If it’s close and they both have to learn on the job, I would rather the guy with the most eligibility take over.
If there’s little or no difference between GMAC and Brandon you roll with the guy that’s showing flashes of brilliance bc you can sell the jump QBs makes in year 2 in Heupel’s offense. People can live (begrudgingly) with 8-4 knowing that there might be bumps in the road as long as there is a promising future ahead.

Does that make the $$ people happy? Probably not. They’re not spending $30+ million for the Dukes Mayor bowl, but you can just try and play with house $ and sneak into the CFP. You gotta look good doing it though .

If that troubles you, consider Merk had a year in the system and was little more than a speed bump for Joey A.

Sometimes it's not development but if you see it once, maybe it's the QB who just doesn't have it, but when you see it repeated, is there a problem developing QBs?

I'm not saying there is but:
1. We weren't thrilled by Nico's development.
2. We essentially got nothing from Merk's development.
3. G-Mac appears to be developing slowly.

I'm just sayin.....

I have it on good authority we will likely start one QB or the other. Anyway….Neither QB has had enough/any developmental playing time. Errbody, chill. Maybe we get lucky and the light comes on early in the season for one of them.

False. A live game against equal competition is the best indicator.
THIS all day long !!!
We've had QBs here that by all accounts were not the best in practice, but when the lights came on, were ballers...
We've also had QBs here that were 'best of the best' in practice and played scared come gametime...

To paraphrase Don King, you don't know until the first real punch is landed.

"If you have two QBs, you have no QB" - said every coach worth a damn in the last century of football
Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin would like to have a word with that. Ole Miss is an anomaly. Situations like that do NOT happen every year. I still expect CJH to march G-Mac out there game 1. He has a history of not playing true freshman QB's in his system. That will play heavily in the decision. I think this will be another 2024 Type season where our offense was stuck in the mud and got carried by the defense.

Which reports say he was unplayable? That word doesn't appear any of the practice reports posted by Fingers.

“I think coming out of the spring, the way I would put it is Brandon has positioned himself nicely to be the starter. He still has to go lock it down. You can’t fool the players. Let’s remember, Josh Heupel played quarterback. He understands the importance of the players around the quarterback buying into that guy. They know who is the best guy, the guy who gives them the best chance to win.

“Yes, he’s a freshman, but as Josh Heupel has now told me a number of times, he played a true freshman the entire season with Dillon Gabriel at UCF. So he is not not going to play Faizon Brandon simply because he’s a true freshman if he’s the best guy. That’s still to be determined.”
