In East Tennessee for the first time in a decade; Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Shoney’s in West Tennessee has been gone for two and a half decades now. Middle Tennessee for about a decade with Lewisburg closing. However, on I40 East, saw two/three still open and two in pigeon Forge.

How are they still open in the eastern part of the state?

Seems in Middle Tennessee, they are Mexican restaurants and the Shoney’s Inn are now Budget Inns.
Wait, Shoney's had hotels?

All the resturants in the Tri have been torn down, except JC. It's being turned into "multi use concept" restaurant.

Shoneys was absolutely terrible I can't believe they lasted as long as they did. I went in 2020 to the JC location because Cracker Barrel was an hour wait and IHOP was closed for COVID. It was literally some of the worst breakfast food I've had. Cafeteria eggs, fatty flimsy bacon. Waffle House ***** all over Shoney's

It's pretty much the same as the other restaurants you mentioned, nearly identical food and flavors (as far as breakfast)lol.

Shoney's downfall was all the price increases. My dad doesn't even go anymore and he used to go a lot.

Nah. There's a reason Shoney's ceased to exist and Waffle House is thriving. They turn em and burn em and put out great breakfast and coffee. Your server may have just gotten out of jail the night before and you can probably guarantee someone on the line is packing, but that's alright with me.

It used to be our “family” restaurant about once a month after church on Sundays and, when we went on vacation. We stopped going there and swapped to Ruby Tuesday’s because the prices were close and the food better.

I think the seafood buffet way back in the early 90’s killed the restaurant chain too.

Shoney's was once a go-to favorite in Nashville, mainly due to two men who had great vision & excellent management/organizational skills: Alex Schoenbaum & Ray Danner. Shoney's in Nashville began a rapid decline when Danner died in 2008.

Ah yes...Vols lost first 6 games that season, Duncan Stewart on the I-40 billboard, & Tennessee won rest of the season. It was followed by a great season i 1989. You were there!
Finished the 88 season with 5 straight wins which led to winning the first 5 in the 89 season and going 11-1 and sharing the SEC title. I went to the opening game in the 1989 season against Colorado St we won 17-14. Yea remember that guy that went up on the billboard till we finally won our first game. Has that really been 38 years ago now??
