George Washington spoke out against political parties. Warned how they would divide the nation. Read his Farewell Address. GW was a freakin' psychic.Absolutely, as individuals they were all flawed, but the collective really did something beautiful. A lesson we should take to heart right about now.
The variety of ideas and perspectives, along with spirited, sincere, thoughtful debate gave birth to one of the best governmental systems in history.
I ponder, with the benefit of hindsight, what would Jefferson, Hamilton, Adams, etc do differently from the beginnning, if anything. Also, what adjustments would they make now?
What would they say about citizens united? What would they say about all of the amendments enacted? What would they say about the two party system as it currently stands? All of it (too much to mention). I ponder this often. I do the same with Teddy Roosevelt (I’m admittedly a fanboy).
Yep, I own the box set. Probably watched it 4 or 5 times over the years. Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney, David Morse… all fantastic work.Thomas Jefferson would not have been amused by Lincoln’s antics. Hamilton likely would have been a huge fanboy.
Did you watch the HBO series John Adams? It was excellent imo, and explored the complex relationship between Adams and Jefferson.
They are one in the same, John!To this day, when anyone mentions Thomas Jefferson, my mind’s eye immediately goes to Stephen Dillane’s character. This is who I see:

Curb the salaries, force everyday travel like citizens. It would force them to be among and work for us. It's not a bad idea at all. Their positions weren't intended to be professions, it was a civic duty. We've created a political class that we pay to abuse and take advantage of us.I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but this is an idea floated to improve the representation citizens get in Washington.
States are full of people. States have no voice, its citizens do. States don't elect senators, it's citizens do that. Might as well have a blind draw.Senate doesn’t represent the citizenry. That is the role of the House, and why California has more Representatives than the states mentioned combined.
Senate represents the States. They are all equal, irrespective of population. Which is what the founders wanted.

Are those citizens in the WHOLE state not using their voice when they elect their Senators. What if you are an Independent and you vote for a Democrat Congressman and a Conservative Senator or the other way around.States are full of people. States have no voice, its citizens do. any interest in continuing the convo about expanding the number of congressional reps?Limit congress to 90 days in session per year, reduce pay accordingly.
No pension, no health care.
Build a dormitory with cafeteria for them to stay in while in session, no perdiem.
As you said, it was never meant to be a career.
This is where we left off.I’m open to being convinced it’s not an idiotic galacticly stupid idea.
Understood. I cannot guarantee your views would be better represented either.
But if you had increased likelihood to have a face to face convo and dialogue about your views and why you held them would your chances of being accurately represented increase or decrease?
Uh, the census was in 2020. You are full ofNew York redistricted with the census as ever state does, and it's irrelevant, because Trump told you and everyone elsewhy he asked Abbott to redistrict, and no where did he mention New York.
