WNBA discussion thread?

very competitive game between wings and fever. Boston looks like a different player at probably 15 To 20 pounds lighter. CC and PB had similar stat lines but Paige was way more efficient as Clarke continued her poor 3 point shooting and TO woes from last year (albeit an injury limited season).

Paige is the better of the two skill wise she can score at all 3 levels and CC has no mid range game

It's been a wild start to the season already. Definitely seeing much tighter reffing and the inevitable parade to the free throw line. But I'm not mad at it, it is over correction but it had to happen. Hopefully things will settle out at a midpoint between the wrestling match and the free throw parade.

Really enjoyed the Wings/ fever game, the Wings are so much better this year. And I agree PB is the better player right now. In addition to the other problems already cited, CC Is just way too fragile. Said she had to go into the tunnel and get her back readjusted a couple of times today.

Sure didn't see the Aces getting hammered at their ring ceremony at all. The Mercury really got their get back today. Pros are weird how dominant they can look one game and how ordinary the next.

Also didn't see the Dream almost losing to the Lynx. Tough loss for MN. Tough first game in Atlanta for AR, she just cannot hit a layup or free throw and the form remains awful. She can, however, still rebound the hell out of the ball. And she does have Howard and Alicia Gray to do this scoring.

Chicago Sky toyed with their food a bit before putting away the Portland expansion team. It was messy at times but they are without two or three starters., Diggins, Cardoso and Rickea all scored well and all hit many free throws. Rickea was still not very efficient, but was so much more active and freed up. I think this is really going to work out well for her. Had 19 points 7 rebounds assists and a block. Hit eight of 10 free throws which is going to mean a ton this year.

Rae gets the start Tomorrow for the Sparks. Hope she does well.

I understand taking care of the ball at the PG position but did everyone know the greatest NBA PG ever Magic Johnson averaged 4 turnovers per game in his career? Tied with Russell Westbrook for most per game in history of NBA.
Magic averaged 11.2 assists vs. 3.9 turnovers, while Caitlin is currently at 8.5 assists vs. 5.4 turnovers for her career. So she would shatter the NBA (and I assume WNBA but can't find it) turnovers record

The point is the PG will always commit turnovers, the hatred by Vol fans is humorous as hell... But carry on for the day .

Plus another double double for Angel Reese in her first game with Atlanta (50th of her career).
She she also blocked Minnesotas last attempt. Defensively Angel is a wonder. But her continued offensive struggles are baffling, especially since I know she works on them.
What a difference a coach makes! José has them playing real basketball, and the players appreciate his work.
To be fair they also have much better players around PB now. Jess Shepherd, who I previously dissed, had a really good game for them. Plus Arike was the good Arike, which makes a tremendous difference.

Meanwhile, the number one draft pick not only did not start, also didn't play all that much and was a complete non factor. That is going to be a very interesting situation going forward.

Her form isn’t changing, she has mobility issues with both of her arms, that’s something she can’t fix or control. She also has the same mobility issue with one of her legs, which affects when she’s driving and an out to jump. To explain, when she drives her right leg moves out of place and she can’t plant and jump correctly, so she abandons the jump and just releases the ball early, something else she can’t control. It’s easier when she’s stationary and just jumps. She can’t control limb issues she was born with. I know people will say sh should find her own way to fix a medical issue.

What does being a Vol fan have to do with it? Assist-to-turnover ratio matters and hers (1.57:1) isn't good
Well most on here despise Caitlin Clark. So what's the reason? She flops just like the rest of the league. She begs for calls just like the rest of the league.so whats the issue? Now I'm done with this **** .... go enjoy Mother's Day with your family.

I've seen you pop into NY team threads to troll them right after they lose playoff games, and now you're complaining about posters "despising" CC which no one has said? Come on, man.

She is one of my favorite players but with all the people who tried to anoint her as the best player in women's basketball (several on this site - though not necessarily this forum - have actually said "best player ever"), it's absolutely fair to point out that she has yet to come anywhere close to that

"best player ever"
No where close, yet.

Highest Q value to date?

  • Merchandise/Popularity: Caitlin Clark (1st) and Angel Reese (2nd) drive the highest-selling merchandise and overall popularity.
  • Marketability Index: Angel Reese leads the 2026 WNBA Marketability Index(80), followed by Paige Bueckers (67).

The Sparks big win now experiment did not start well to say the least. As long as Reagan Peebly is willing to finance Kelsey Plum's vanity project, this is going to be a disaster. They let Plum cosplay as a lead guard and this is what she does:

Plum got her required number of shots up and scored a lot of points. And the Sparks lost their home opener by 27 to the Aces who had been humiliated the day before and were coming in for a back to back. Nekka cannot be thrilled and I cannot imagine this does not become last year's Seattle locker room by the end of June.

Not a lick of D was played by the Sparks and I genuinely thank Lynn Roberts doesn't care. Just wants to outscore everyone via Analytics.
She is another coach who has let her coaching personality be completely consumed by an analytical approach. Like so many of those coaches, she was moderately successful at a lower level but really struggling at the top.

Lackluster day for Rae, didn't get many shots, of course unable to pry the ball loose from Plum. Had five points and a couple of rebounds but not much of an impact. Also uncharacteristically got just roasted on D, first by Jackie Young and then by Chennedy Carter, also known as God's gift to my fantasy team.

Biggest controversy of the day was Cam Brink only getting eight extremely unsuccessful minutes and never re entering the game. In the presser afterwards Roberts called her out saying Brink has simply got to begin producing. Cam was awful at the beginning of Unrivaled but given a little floor time and the extreme positive encouragement of Noell Quinn she was playing great by the end. however the foul trouble is just going to be her Achilles heel forever. She played 8 minutes yesterday and had three fouls and 3 turnovers. Mostly stood around in corners on offense and watched Plum ball hog.

Definitely not the win now start the home crowd was promised.

The legend of Angel's orthopedic disabilities seems to grow by leaps and bounds. I've never heard any of this except something about an ongoing arm problem. Anyway I've always admired her for fighting through whatever causes her obvious limitations and becoming the effective player she is. The living example of make the best you can and with what you got.

Whatever the limitations are, apparently Angel believes she can improve, because every offseason she says so repeatedly and she posts numerous videos of herself working to improve her mechanics. Admire her persistence.

So tell me is an arm suppose to bend inwards like this, and if it’s not do u think this would affect shooting mechanics since u can’t control it, or should it look normal and have no affect or shooting mechanics?

Apparently CC is already load managing on defense this year. Saving herself for the other side of the ball. She is who should play for Lynn Roberts in LA. Also IMO this is what makes Paige a better all round player.

I’m getting the feeling Clark’s pro basketball career may be short like Jackie Stiles’ was.

Am so happy Rickea got out and now I am hoping someone frees Cam from Lynn Roberts-ball.

She has metal rod in leg from a bad break sustained in her freshman season and she has had two serious shoulder injuries, plus her recent wrist injury that required surgery. I do think there are aspects of her mechanics that can be improved and she has said that she is learning to rebuild her shot.

But she does seem to be operating with physical constraints.

Plum went 10-18, 56% for the game. That is very efficient shooting and far away the best % of the others shooting over 10 shots (Wheeler, Hamby, Atkins and Ogwumike). It's not like she was pulling an Arike.

The defense appeared to be rather porous by everyone, however.
